Because there is no smoke, there is no fire. Thus, the cause is not observed. Because there is smoke, there is fire, which is inferred by the self-nature of the effect sign. If it is said that there is fire, it is because there is smoke. This is an inference of the effect sign. Because there is no fire, there is no smoke, which is the self-nature inference of not observing the cause. Among the twelve contradictory objects, the touch of fire and hail mutually prevent each other, which is the pervasive contradictory object, and the two contradictory pervasive objects. The touch of smoke and hail mutually prevents each other, which is the result of the pervasive contradiction, and the two pervasive objects of the cause and the contradiction. Fire and feathers mutually prevent each other, which is the cause and the contradictory object, and the two objects of the self-nature contradictory result. Smoke and cold touch mutually prevent each other, which is the self-nature contradictory result, and the two causes and contradictory objects. Sandalwood fire and cold touch mutually prevent each other, which is the pervasive object of contradiction, and the two pervasive contradictory objects. The function of sandalwood fire and feathers mutually prevents each other, which is the cause of contradictory pervasive objects, and the two objects of the result of pervasive and contradictory objects. By the inference that meat has wood ash, the self-nature of preventing wood prevents meat, and the inference that there is no wood, there is no meat, because the pervasiveness is not seen, so the self-nature signs of meat having wood mutually infer, and one's subsequent pervasiveness becomes one's reverse pervasiveness. Second, in the seemingly fallacious inference, although the admitted sign is established, it cannot deduce the undesired establishment. The classification includes: the sign is not established, contradictory pervasiveness, uncertain pervasiveness, and four types of voluntary answers. Sakya Pandita's own school divides into two types: contradictory pervasiveness and uncertain pervasiveness, saying that they are established as four types. It is said that it was copied from the Treasury of Reasoning.

Four that are without a locus, both are absent, and although present, are unrelated. First, like the sound of ultimate truth being the subject. No matter what sign is placed on it, it does not establish pervasion because it has no direction. Second, like being a rabbit's horn. No matter where it is placed, it does not establish pervasion because it is not a dharma of a direction. Third, the sound of ultimate truth is the subject. It is permanent, like being a rabbit's horn. Both direction and dharma are not established. Fourth, wanting to know the sign, there are three: impossible, non-pervasive, and having both pervasive and non-pervasive aspects. First, sound is the subject. It is impermanent, like being non-audible, or like being apprehended by the eye. Second, sound is the subject. It is pervaded by prior thought, like being produced by the effort of a person. Third, the consciousness of the appearance of two moons is the subject. It is direct perception, like being free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. Although being free from conceptualization is established, being non-erroneous is not established, so here one receives the fault of the sign not being established. Being overly pervasive is uncertain, so one does not receive the fault of the sign not being established, so it does not exist. Thus, there are six. Second, in relation to the mind, the subject is not established, the sign is not established, both of them are not established, and the relationship between the two is not established, making four. First, like establishing a jewel as the subject when one is uncertain whether it is a flesh-eating ghost's vase, a jewel, or a lamp. Second, like being made by one who is free from desire, or when one is in doubt whether it is smoke or steam, establishing smoke as the sign. Third, the flesh-eating ghost's vase is the subject. It is here, because there is a flesh-eating ghost. Fourth, suspecting impossibility, suspecting non-pervasiveness, suspecting having both aspects, there are three. First, for the mind that has not made a sound, sound is the subject. It is impermanent, because it is made. Second, believing that words have both what is made by a person and what is not made, all words are the subject. It is not self-arisen, because it is made by a person. Third, although most things are considered impermanent, in the face of those who believe that permanent things such as Ishvara exist. Ishvara is the subject. It is changing, because it is impermanent and is the same entity as things. Establishing the previous virtue with the present virtue, and establishing that there is a peacock in the middle of the mountain valley by the sound of the peacock's call, is uncertain, not the sign not being established.
