Some say that sound produced by effort is the result of permanence. This is unreasonable, because it is newly produced, so the sound known by hearing is the result of impermanence. This is because permanence has no change, so the result is produced by effort, which is contradictory. The opponent says that it is not contradictory, sound is permanent, but it is obscured by obscuration. If conditions have benefit and harm, then it is impermanent. If it is permanent, then as before, conditions can do nothing. Then, do you think that it is unreasonable that vases, etc., were not visible before, but are visible later? We think that vases, etc., are impermanent and changeable, so they can be changed by conditions, which is not the same as yours, because we think that it is the cause of knowledge of a special moment when three conditions are gathered. The opponent says that he also thinks so. Such a change by conditions that you think is contrary to the immutability that you think. Second, distinguish from the perspective of combination. If we distinguish from the non-dependent nature of the sign and divide the correct sign combination into three, then these three reversed contradictions will also become three. Second, distinguish from the perspective of expressing intention, there are three types: negation, establishment, and abandonment. First, some other schools say that there are four contradictions by distinguishing the nature and difference of the subject and predicate. Second, the self-system. Some directly express contradiction, such as "impermanent sound is permanent"; some contradict by the power of expression, such as "permanent dharma can function"; in the context of debate, such as "eyes, etc. can function for others" is the contradiction of dharma, such as "eyes, etc. that can function for others" is the contradiction of the subject, such an establishment is distinguished by the power of expressing intention, not the different combination of meaning. Third, then, like this, dividing contradiction into four types, is it necessary to distinguish the correct reason in the same way? Even if it is distinguished, it is okay, but in contradiction, there are non-Buddhists who think that the reason is the correct reason, etc., and there is a need to show contradiction. In the correct reason, there is no need to eliminate the reversed distinction like this, so a moderate approach is taken. Second, refuting other distinctions. Then, the Samkhya school says that eyes, etc. are the subject, and can function for others, because they are gathered and accumulated, like a mattress, verbally saying it is for others, but in the heart it is for oneself, thus establishing the self, etc., is this not included here? What is thought in the heart and what is saidྲས་པ་ Whichever it is, because one's own intention is the same as what is to be established. The Samkhya school does not approve of statements that eyes, etc., accomplish things for others, considering it the third contradiction, and does not print contradictory signs separately. Third, regarding the certainty of those signs: there are two types of certainty, certainty that prevents extremes and certainty of the power of those signs. First, regarding the number of signs established, the certainty that prevents other extremes of more or less than one correct and three similar signs determines that there are four signs established: the subject (paksha), the property of the subject (dharma), and the establishment and non-establishment of the two. Among them, the non-establishment is similar, and for the established, the certainty of the establishment of the subject (paksha), the certainty of prevention, and the uncertainty of both, there are three types, that is, four types. More is not needed, and less does not include, thus the certainty of the number is established. Second, for the four signs established, their power is also fourfold: the non-established cannot generate doubt, the uncertain generates doubt, the contradictory generates the certainty of not wanting, and the correct generates the certainty of wanting. Second, regarding the subject (paksha) that is understood by the sign, there are three aspects: establishing the definition, determining the basis of the definition, and explaining in detail the removal of harm to the subject (paksha). First, for the first, it is shown as five in relation to the distinction, and it is established as one in relation to the totality. There are three aspects to this: debate, refutation, and rejection. First, the definition of the subject (paksha) established by the sign, in relation to the distinction, the Sutra of Pramana states that it has five definitions: essence, which means it is not established by pramana; exclusion, which means it is not excluded by pramana; the basis of inference has three internal divisions: the opponent's own commitment and intention. These two do not cut off the establisher, etc., therefore it is said that the sign shows or is only the subject (paksha). For this, what has establishment and exclusion is not the subject (paksha), and if it is promised as the subject (paksha), it is one's own intention, and although it is the subject (paksha), it is actually so, and the mind is uncertain, therefore there is distinction. Second, the intention is the subject (paksha), which is the subject, as it is said in the Gate of Reasoning. Third, for the latter, there is no pervasion of sudden direct perception, and there is too much pervasion of untimely vows, and if the sign also needs to be promised, is it not the same? These three debates do not harm. Second, for the basis of the definition of the subject (paksha), there are three aspects: destruction, establishment, and abandonment. First, others believe that the basis of the definition of the subject (paksha) is only the self-characteristic of the object, or some believe that it is only imputation.
