It is known with a single instant of wisdom. This is an intermediate verse. Second is seeming valid cognition. There are two: characteristic and division. First, it is a mistaken consciousness, and all of these are considered to be seeming valid cognition. Second, if it is divided, there are two types: conceptual mistaken consciousness and non-conceptual mistaken consciousness. Among the non-conceptual, there are two types: mind consciousness mistaken, like a dream, and sense consciousness mistaken, like a double moon. Conceptual thought, as asserted by Dharmakirti, is conceptual thought that relies on conventions, conceptual thought that imputes onto other objects, and conceptual thought that has hidden meanings. The six types of valid cognition are explained in brief to reverse wrong conceptualizations, and are spoken by separating them from these three. That is, for mistaken consciousness, like the mind that grasps mirages as water and colored ropes as snakes; conventional consciousness, like the conceptualization that grasps the general characteristic of a cow; inference, the mind that grasps the sign itself; and what arises from inference, the mind that grasps the object to be inferred, which possesses the sign; memory, the mind that desires past objects and the manifest desire for future objects. Among these, the logicians explain the first two in order to eliminate the mistake of sense consciousness being conceptual. The middle two are made to depend on the sign, and this is to establish a similar example that proves it is not sense consciousness. The last two are made to not depend on the sign. Among these, conventional consciousness is conceptual thought that relies on conventions, mistaken consciousness is the imputation of other objects, and the latter four are separated from objects with hidden meanings. Third is valid cognition and its result, there are two: refutation and establishment. First, there are two: outer and inner. First, the three systems each view the meaning separately, that is, the consciousness of the appearance of the meaning is non-conceptual valid cognition, and after that, the conceptualization that ascertains the nature and distinctions of the meaning is the result, and thus valid cognition and the result of valid cognition are established. The logicians assert that the sense and object meet, and from that, the understanding of the meaning is valid cognition and its result. The Vaibhashikas say there that grasping the distinctions of qualities, etc., and understanding the substance that possesses distinctions are valid cognition and its result. Second, there are two: the side of unreasonableness and the side of reasonableness. First, some Shravaka Vaibhashikas believe that the sense faculty itself is the valid cognition that establishes the object, and the consciousness that arises from it is the result, thus they believe in valid cognition and its result. Second, there are general and specific.

Sa. First, because these are unreasonable, these two own systems are established as the cause and effect of the arising and the arisen, as the fruit and the cause of establishment. Such a cause and effect itself is considered as valid cognition and fruit. Second, there are two types of valid cognition and fruit: direct perception and inference. First, there are two systems: the Mind-Only school and the Object-Knowing school. First, in which the three knowers of grasping, grasper, and consciousness are established as valid cognition, the object to be measured, and the three fruits, and the self-awareness is the valid cognition and fruit, which is mostly in accordance with the tenets of establishing the aspect of consciousness. Second, the proponents of object-knowing, such as the Vaibhashikas, etc., each establish various classifications of valid cognition and fruit by the power of their own tenets. Second, there are two systems: the Object-Knowing school and the Mind-Only school. First, in which the fire on the back of the mountain is considered as the self-characteristic of fire, as the object to be measured, and the smoke arising from the self-characteristic of smoke, as the difference of the mind that grasps smoke and eliminates others, becomes the sign, which itself is the valid cognition, and the realization of the self-characteristic of the object is the fruit, as the wise ones think. Second, some people think that it is impossible to have a fruit-sign in the Mind-Only school, because if there is fire on the back of the mountain, then the external object is established; if there is not, then the sign is confused; even if it is not there now, if it is there later, the cause precedes the effect. If it is universally determined, from the essence of the awakened habit of clearly appearing fire, the habit of appearing smoke arises, and when these two are established as cause and effect, then when smoke is seen again, if one goes to the back of the mountain, one can infer that the habit of being able to awaken the appearance of fire, therefore it does not deceive the person, so in the Mind-Only school this is also inference, as the wise ones think. From the Treasury of Logic of Valid Cognition, the ninth chapter, the detailed explanation of the examination of direct perception, is completed. Second, regarding inference, there are three parts: summary, detailed explanation, and conclusion. First, there are two types of inference. Second, there are two types of inference: for oneself and for others. First, there are two: definition and determination of its nature. First, the definition of inference for oneself is: seeing the meaning of the object to be measured from the sign with three aspects. Second, there are two: the sign by which one understands, and the object to be proven by it. First, there are two: the determination of the basis of dependence of the sign, and the classification of the sign depending on it. First, the basis of dependence of the first aspect, the basis of dependence of the two pervasions, and the rationality of establishing these as the basis of dependence.
