Regarding the ways of mistaking understanding as one, and the abandonment of what is inappropriate in this, there are two. First, due to the power of habits ingrained from beginningless ignorance, these are mistaken as a single generality, saying, "This is a Myrobalan tree, this is a cow," and so on. Second, if things are different but similar, then the wisdom that arises from them or their result should also be the same. For example, for white mustard seeds and black beans, a single wisdom of a cow arises, but for a horse and a cow, a single wisdom does not arise, but different wisdoms arise. Isn't this contradictory? Answer: Because the object, sense faculty, and attention are different, just as one consciousness arises, and different medicines cure different diseases, it is only similar in that the causes are different, but there is a difference in whether or not a single result arises, which is permissible by the nature of phenomena. The third necessity is that for manifest objects, times, and forms that are different, the actions of negation and affirmation can be understood in one aspect. For example, if one says, "There is no tree," then it is understood that all trees are gone, but one cannot label each manifest object as non-existent. Second, regarding imputation. The reason for imputation, the form of the wisdom of imputation, and the necessity of imputing to different things, there are three. First, the reason for imputing different things to one. Because the objects of other-exclusion are different, even if the essence is one, it is permissible to distinguish different reversals from the aspect of excluding other phenomena. For example, the sound's being produced and impermanent, and the division of the subject, predicate, and reason, are different. Second, just as the ways in which sound and conceptualization enter are established differently from the perspective of exclusion, so too, in reality, they are imputed as different and clung to. Third, although the essence of the entity is one, it is not understood as one in this way. In order to understand this, non-sound and permanent phenomena are separated from non-produced phenomena, and sound is distinguished as impermanent, produced, etc., and it is understood that the sound itself, which establishes one thing, is impermanent, etc. Second, regarding the detailed classification of exclusion. It is divided into: the reality of classification, the exclusion of others in reality, and the establishment of each. First, if exclusion is classified, then from the door of establishing the existent other-exclusion that is to be established, and the non-existent apprehension that is to be refuted and prevented, there are two types of other-exclusion: existent and non-existent. By distinguishing between sound and wisdom, existence and non-existence are also two types, namely, the other-exclusion of existent sound, and the other-exclusion of existent wisdom. Similarly, non-existence

There are four types: sound and other-exclusion of mind. The second part includes two types: commitment and the reasons for fulfilling that commitment. The first part, if refuting other-exclusion in things, some Tibetans believe that other-exclusion in things refers to material objects, which is completely failing to distinguish Dharmakirti's true intention, because the so-called "other-exclusion" is the way consciousness operates, and there is no other-exclusion in material things. The second part, the appearing object should not be other-exclusion, and if it is established, it will fall into the predicament of appearing the same. The first part, the reason for its non-existence is that what is called other-exclusion in things is actually self-characteristic. This will become the appearing object, and the function of eliminating conceptual objects will be lost. The second part, if exclusion exists in things, then the appearance of the way of holding without concepts should also exist in things in the same way. If it is believed that appearance exists in things, then all things should appear on themselves, and in that case, merely because things exist, they should appear, thus leading to the interruption of the blind continuum. The third part, regarding the respective classifications, is divided into two types: other-exclusion of sound consciousness and other-exclusion of non-sound consciousness. The first part includes three aspects: definition, classification, and respective meanings. First, the definition of other-exclusion of things is that merely by grasping the thing itself in consciousness, it can cut off the situation where non-things cannot function. Therefore, all verbal concepts about existence have discriminating objects. Second, other-exclusion in things can be divided into two types: one is determined as manifest, entering through exclusion in appearance; the other is determined as hidden, distinguishing through the object of non-appearance. The third part includes two types: appearance and other-exclusion determined as manifest, and hidden and other-exclusion determined as hidden. First, for root consciousness, the appearance of the pot's own characteristics is obvious. On this basis, labels such as blue, non-blue, permanent, impermanent, etc., will be attached, and concepts will be used to distinguish whether it is correct, thus generating many subsequent certainties. Distinguishing through words and concepts, therefore, through the way of other-exclusion, it will become the object of distinguishing various opposites. For non-concepts, although the object is obvious, it will be determined by concepts afterwards; and for non-appearing objects, it will only be analyzed through concepts. In either of these two cases, the concept itself does not have self-meaning and self-characteristic, but is similar. In any case, the object of the concept is exclusion. The second part includes two types: entity and classification. First, the characteristics of things themselves
