If there were a dharma called "similarity," then even if one newly saw something never seen before, one should know that it is similar to others. If it is necessary to know in that way, it is impossible because there is no similarity in meaning. Second, some may think, even if there is no commonality of similarity in meaning, why wouldn't there be a commonality that is apprehended as similar by conceptual thought? If that were the case, the characteristic of commonality appearing as a single entity would be lost. If, even though the entities are not the same, merely apprehending them as similar makes them a single commonality, what would happen? That would be unreasonable because it is impossible to have a single object when apprehending similarity, since similarity cannot be known without two dharmas. The term "single commonality" is not applied to something that is not a single object because commonality refers to the name of a single dharma of the object of clinging, and it does not appear in the form of two. If one says that even if it does not appear as one, the very apprehension of similarity is commonality, then if the image of a single commonality does not naturally arise in the mind due to beginningless habituation, then even if one newly cognizes similarity, it cannot be a commonality, and it cannot understand the meaning of commonality, just as cognizing a Brahmin's child and a lion as similar is not a commonality. If one thinks that it is because there is a different way, that is not correct, because even in meat and trees, etc., only a part is similar, which exists in both commonality and non-commonality, and there is no dharma that is completely the same in time, place, and form anywhere because a unique, single dharma cannot exist in other things. Second, contradiction with scripture. This also seems to contradict the statements made by Dharmakirti, the king of reasoning. In the Pramāṇavārttika, it says, "The wisdom of commonality is also corrupted." and "Commonality is the nature of non-existence. Therefore, it is not an object of the senses. Therefore, the dharmas of commonality are not established through direct perception." and so on. Second, one's own system. If, through intellectual analysis, any dharma is merely separated from all the natures of dharmas that are not itself, then it is established in all things. Because it appears as one in the face of conceptual thoughts that exclude others, it is a common commonality, and it is the object of affirmation and negation for those who mistake it and its own characteristic as the same entity. Third, debate and response. Divided into two parts: debate and response. First, some say that if meaning itself does not have commonality, then the commonality that excludes others is merely imputed and therefore non-existent.
