Rock salt that breaks into squares, its efficacy and manufacturing method are excellent. It tastes salty, is hard and shiny, shaped like a bell, and comes in colors such as black, blue, red, brown, gray, and yellow, but is mainly divided into two types: red and black. The outer layer has stone lacquer, and the adhesion of other stones is a natural sign. It has a slight odor of horn, tallow, and musk. Artificially made ones have lost the lines on the mouth and bottom, are hollow inside and tube-shaped, and have no musk odor. Wa salt is gradually formed from rocks and canyons, like aggregated grains of sugar, and its shape is uncertain, such as hollow tubes. Bitter salt tastes more poisonous than the previous one and feels slightly cold to the touch. Leprosy salt forms like snow on the surface of canyons, or under Yakṣas, forming a cushion like gray sponge salt, and sometimes it forms like curd on the surface of rocks. Wood salt is sometimes classified as Da salt and bitter salt, but wood salt refers to salt that is licked with the tongue, and it is divided into thin and thick types. It tastes salty and sweet, and the taste of bitter salt is not obvious, it is the well-known wood salt. Tongue-licking salt is like white rock salt but slightly reddish. It tastes like borax and has the taste of layered salt. Rock salt and tongue-licking salt are the best among salts, as stated in the Moonlight Sutra. Also, this salt is like the Kag tree, sweet, but if tasted, it has the pungency and irritation of bitter salt. Sea salt forms from the sea like ice. The taste is bitter and salty, sweet and soft, and smells like sugar. When burned, it melts, emits white bubbles, becomes white, transparent, hard, shiny, and good like glass. Salt with animal feces and white turbidity will lose its effect and is of poor quality. Now, this one called "Damtsur" is a category of names. Bitter salt comes from various places, from the sea and underground springs, it is a cultivated salt, and its color and odor vary depending on the place of origin or processing method. The taste is also slightly bitter and of poor quality. It contains odors such as borax and is of poor quality. Stone flower salt forms like ice from rock crevices. It is pure, white, and free of impurities, and does not need to be boiled. Those that come from house foundations or garbage heaps are greasy and loose and need to be boiled and washed. When put in fire, it makes a hissing sound and turns into sparks. Garbage salt is formed from garbage heaps, it is like salt, granular, and produced by drying, so it is also called dry salt, and its color varies depending on the place of origin. Dry salt causes Bacon disease, is difficult to digest, and is heavy, even if livestock eat it, it will cause pain, groaning, and diarrhea like poisoning. Soup salt, that is, salt produced from the roots of soup trees, rotten tree trunks, etc., is as difficult to digest as the previous one, is highly toxic, and do not confuse wood-produced salt with stone flower salt, which can be distinguished by fire.

White borax, white, heavy, and sweet, is good for medicinal purposes. Salt from salt lands, if pungent, is inferior. Yakshaara (ཡ་བཀྵ་ར་) comes from cliffs, precipices, caves, and the like. White and smooth like the top of a snowy mountain, making a rustling sound like snow when held, sweet and pungent is good. Soundless, hard, rough, bitter, and astringent is bad. The four types of sea salt are sour and astringent in taste. White sea salt comes from India, resembling salt but whiter and clearer, called Dar-tsur (དར་མཚུར་), white sea salt, or crystal sea salt. Blue sea salt is naturally formed in La-tho-ta (ལ་ཐོ་ཋ་), blue or turquoise in color, tasting like sea salt. A natural sign is the presence of stone dregs. Its name is also Big-pan (བིག་པཎ་). Yellow sea salt mostly comes from rocks. Rocks with yellow stone dregs are more acidic. Black sea salt mostly comes from blue vitriol, light yellow in color, slightly astringent. These two sea salts, no matter which of the four juices of myrobalan, amla, belleric myrobalan, or rice is used to dye them, will show their original color. Salt making: The method of making Han salt is the Upper Hor (སྟོད་ཧོར་) method. Mix one bag of Yakshaara (ཡ་བཀྵ་ར་) with one handful of natural Han salt, grind into powder. Place two earthenware pots mouth to mouth, grease the inside, pour in the mixture, and seal the mouth. In a high place exposed to sun, moon, and cold wind, dig a pit half a fathom deep, erect two wooden posts, and securely tie the two pots to the posts, so that they are suspended in the air without touching the ground. Cover the mouth to prevent water and wind from entering. For placing and taking out, choose the time when the Great Bear constellation and the moon meet, and bury for one year. It is said that this produces natural Han salt. Alternatively, for Ze salt without impurities, mix half Lan salt with stupa patterns, and a quarter of good Han salt, grind and melt in a copper pot, and when it becomes like water, pour it on a cold stone. Even if Han salt has no shape, its effect is the same. Kha-ru (ཁ་རུ་) salt making has three methods: first, three ounces of glass-like Northern salt, four ounces of good Northern borax, and six ounces of roasted Ancient Ru Ser-hrob (གནའ་རུ་སེར་ཧྲོབ་), grind into fine powder. Mix the salt with water from one spoonful of yogurt, knead into balls the size of a soup spoon, dry them, and melt them in a copper pot with charcoal fire, then pour into another container to complete. Alternatively, mix six parts of glass-like Northern salt with two and a half parts of borax, grind into fine powder, melt in a copper pot, and make a melt. Separately, take half a part of water salt, three parts of Han salt, and four parts of coarsely ground wild yak horn, boil in eight times the amount of water, take the clear liquid and cool it, add the above salt melt ground into fine powder and boil to make Khanda (ཁཎྚ་, khaṇṭa), or melt in a copper pot and pour it out to complete. The color of the salt made in this way will turn red. Reddish-brown.
