The essence of medicines that can benefit or harm, whatever is included in the number of auspicious things, is well subdued by the power of its respective antidotes, and abides in the source of accomplished, perfect nectar. Thereafter, the precious mercury is gradually subdued, one day at a time, with the juice of saltpeter powder, cold water, pomegranate juice, etc., as well as a mixture of cow urine and three acidic substances, and water from a mixture of pottery, bricks, and clay powder. After that, it is subdued for two days each, a total of four days, with warm, high-quality wine, and the juice of boiled garlic with the residue removed. After that, it is subdued for one day each with the clear broth of fresh and old meat, and the oil of old butter boiled in hot water, and the water with the residue removed. From the first day until now, it is actually sixteen days, but this time, one day was added during the previous three hot substances, so it is counted as seventeen days.
