Observing the joyous festivals of women, laughter, the manner of holding hands and dancing together, and deceptions such as men and women setting a time but not meeting, taking a bride, the birth of young people, and their growth and propagation, deliberating on matters, messengers traveling to other lands, fighting with others, and the guide himself, are also adorned by the flourishing of power. When describing these situations, if it is done too concisely, the charm cannot be expressed, so it should not be too brief, but should be elaborated as appropriate. Whatever is described, the words should express a charm that is like seeing the scene in person, thereby stimulating changes in inner feelings, and filling or saturating with them. The chapter should not be too large due to too many cumbersome and difficult words, but should be appropriate in length and detail, making it easy to understand. The verses themselves should be well connected in accordance with the characteristics of meter (Sanskrit Devanagari: वृत्त, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: vṛtta, Chinese literal meaning: meter) and so on. At the beginning and end of all chapters, long and short sentences, prose, etc., and the embellishments of sound and meaning, and the meters, should be different and varied, thereby pleasing the minds of the world. Such poetry, possessing sacred adornment, is excellent and pleasing, so it will be accepted by many and will last until the end of the kalpa. Whatever praises of cities and oceans, etc., are said to appear in the texts of great poetry, generally speaking, it is a description of extensive praise, but this refers to the manner of description that becomes a good component. It does not mean that if the praise of these is incomplete, it will lead to the fault of not being able to become a text of great poetry. Even if the subject of the poem lacks some of the components listed here, such as mountains, seasons, bathing, etc., if the manner of praising the main subject is very perfect, then that poem will satisfy the wise or learned. Therefore, the lack of some praise for mountains, etc., here does not mean that if these are lacking, the poem cannot become a fault of great poetry. So it is said. Furthermore, in the case of great poetry, the praise of the city is: On the first tender leaf of the vine.
