It is essential to understand. "Vastness" means stating the virtues of the object of praise without underestimating them. "Beauty" means not being like an excessively improper display of affectation, but having the quality of being pleasing to everyone's ears. "Concentration" refers to a special way of expression that, even when attributing the qualities of one thing to another, the meaning is understood and has a pleasing flavor. Thus, clarity, explicitness, pleasantness, vastness, beauty, and majesty are the qualities of the subject matter and the manner of expression. Therefore, in composing poetry, there is a difference between pleasant and unpleasant depending on the sound, regardless of the embellishment of meaning. In some cases, the sound is too rough, and the expression becomes rough. In other cases, the sound is too soft, and it becomes loose. This can be understood through one's own experience. Moreover, roughness of sound is due to the difference between aspirated and unaspirated sounds, as mentioned above. The unaspirated sounds ཊ་ཌ་ཎ་ have a greater degree of roughness. Furthermore, any letter that is stacked, has a long vowel, or has a distinct tone is heavy. The opposite is light. Letters with aspiration, stacking, long vowels, etc., are very heavy. Also, the way the places of articulation of letters meet each other is expressed. When reading verses, etc., one should learn from one's own experience the various differences between ease and difficulty, and pleasantness and unpleasantness. If the sound is too rough, it should be made lighter as much as possible. If it is too soft, roughness should be added as appropriate. In general, if aspirated letters and heavy letters are mixed appropriately, the tone of the expression will be tightened, which seems somewhat better. Furthermore, in praises of wrathful deities, etc., it is acceptable for the sound to be rougher for the sake of intense meaning, etc. In other cases, it is better to combine embellishments of meaning such as wonder with a smooth and flawless sound. In short, if the expression of that speech sounds pleasant to the ear, it will become a virtue in any case, and the opposite will become a fault. Similarly, if we consider the meaning itself in terms of the manner of expression, it is a great virtue for speech to have the qualities of clarity and explicitness. Since the expression of speech is for the sake of understanding the meaning itself, the ability to easily clarify the meaning is a virtue of speech.

Needless to say, generally, Southerners prefer this. Therefore, the treatises of Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti, Hero, etc., in India also possess this quality. In Tibet, the writings of Sakya Pandita, Longchenpa, Je Tsongkhapa, and Karma Pakshi Rangjung Dorje, etc., are also like that. Some people like compositions with clear and lucid language, which is because they have the habit of favoring this style. Others like poetry that is not too easy to understand, but rather somewhat implicit, which is because they naturally tend towards the Gauda style. Such linguistic expressions can be found in India in most of the writings of Chandra Gomi, as well as in the writing styles of Khenchen Shantarakshita, King Deva's Power of Virtue, and Nagmo Khola, etc., to varying degrees. In Tibet, some of the writings of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama, Tibetan Scholars, Rinpungpa, etc., and the Yönten Dzö of Jigme Lingpa, etc., are like that. These are also mostly the case, and there is no absolute certainty. Compositions that mix meditation, superior insight, excellence, and combination, as well as various styles of crooked expressions such as contradiction and denial, are mostly very beautiful, but sometimes they can be a bit implicit. Some linguistic expressions have neither that style nor profound meaning, but are obscure simply because the expression is not smooth, which is a fault and not a virtue. In general, clear writing is the greatest virtue, but in some special cases, such as words with special structures, it is not beautiful if it is too clear, and it is better to be a little implicit. Praises and letters, etc., and works combined with a humorous style, should be used flexibly according to the situation. For the subject matter of treatises, etc., in most cases, although they have poetic flavor, clear and straightforward language, without twists and turns, and easy to understand is the best, because it is easy to enter. Whichever of the two is chosen, it is important to make it have the flavor of meaning, which is the key. People's writing styles also vary, with either of the two. These are important digressions, and poets should think carefully and abandon them. Therefore, combination (referring to Sanskrit-Tibetan mixed style) is because the letters of the Great Life (referring to Sanskrit) are slightly more numerous, so it is very difficult to express even without slackening.
