Even discussions and seeing Buddha images scribbled on walls are not wasted roots of virtue. Because the object of focus is the Buddha, and by the power of the complete wisdom of the equality of the three times, it is certain that one will not be deceived or surpassed. Just as fish caught by sharp mantras, or seized by the seven steps of a snake, or caught by an iron hook, do not need to strive with their own strength, but are involuntarily drawn in. These are not like the words of Māradū, but for those who have ascertained the infallibility of the law of cause and effect through reason, a definite knowledge free from the darkness of doubt arises. Therefore, the immeasurably beneficial Tathāgata should be remembered day and night, whenever and wherever. Hearing the letters of the Tathāgata's name and having great faith in it is very rare, because the Buddha's name is immeasurable merit, an inexhaustible source, the nature of reality, dependent origination, aspiration, samādhi, and the power of inconceivable virtue. When the activity of the Buddha's name exists, it is known and clear as the basis of benefit and happiness. Just as wish-fulfilling jewels, wish-fulfilling trees, auspicious vases, nectar drinks, and so on, which fulfill desires in this life, are difficult to obtain, what need is there to say about these? Jewels and the like cannot illuminate the path to liberation, but the name of the Tathāgata will surely lead us to enlightenment. Therefore, by the inconceivable secret blessing of the Tathāgata, the manifested name also brings perfect bliss, the nature of things, the power of dependent origination is inconceivable, and it is never deceptive. If one examines carefully, jewels and other material objects are collections of many particles, and even accomplished vidyā mantras are merely sounds of speech, a series of moments, without any real accomplishment. However, they undoubtedly give the worshiper perfect glory. Similarly, by the power of emptiness of inherent existence, if one believes in the infallible power of dependent origination of things, then all practices will be meaningful. The sūtra also says: For sentient beings, every day, for as many eons as there are grains of sand in the Ganges, give the food and clothing of the gods.

Napa, giving one morsel of food to a layperson generates immeasurable merit. Dedicate it to monks, faithful followers, stream-enterers, once-returners, non-returners, Arhats, and Pratyekabuddhas. Some may offer divine food and clothing daily to all Pratyekabuddhas, as numerous as the dust particles in ten directions, for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges. Or, hearing the voice of the Buddha, writing the form of the Buddha's body, or even seeing a clay-made Buddha image, the merit is far greater. Seeing the Buddha, joining palms in reverence, or uttering just one verse of praise, what need is there to mention offerings? Whoever holds the name of the Buddha, deeply believing, revering, and not abandoning it, filling ten lands with precious jewels, offering them daily to all Buddhas for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges, cannot compare to the merit of holding the name. Moreover, merely holding the name brings limitless benefits in this life and the next, as has been said. What need is there to mention reading and contemplating such praises of the Victorious One? The meaning of what has been said should be understood from the sutras. Secondly, recollecting the Dharma has two aspects: brief explanation and detailed explanation. First, the section from "the sacred Dharma" to "completely purified" is the brief explanation. In general, the term "Dharma (藏文,梵文天城体:धर्म,梵文罗马拟音:Dharma,汉语字面意思:法)" derived from the root "Dhudhāniya" which means "to hold," has ten meanings, such as knowable objects and paths. Dharma, the knowable, holds its own characteristics; the ten virtues, etc., hold from bad destinies; the path holds from the two extremes, and so on, which needs to be understood according to the specific context. But in this case, the sacred Dharma refers to the sacred, best, and most excellent among the knowable dharmas, which are the Dharma of the causal path and the resultant cessation of suffering, Nirvana, and the Dharma of the scriptures that are in accordance with their cause. In short, it is called the sacred Dharma of scripture and realization. Such sacred Dharma is initially good because it generates faith when first heard; in the middle, when experiencing the meaning through wisdom arising from contemplation, it generates a special joy of certainty on the path of eternal happiness, so it is good or excellent in the middle; and finally, during practice, correct wisdom arises, so it completely reverses samsara, thus it is ultimately good, these are the three. Or, in order, what is said is the three trainings, namely discipline.
