Because it is separated from the support. If holding because it is separated from the support, then it would follow that even those with covered sense faculties and the blind could hold. Happiness, suffering, etc., are not measurable by direct perception, or it would follow that they are not measurable because the sense faculty and object do not meet. And there is no other sense faculty to measure it. That is also true, because it is known without relying on measuring and examining it. If that is the case, what is its object, and what is the subject, i.e., the eye, etc., is not. Or, if it is measured by the word "or," then there must be its subject, a valid cognition or another direct perception. Or, if another sense faculty is needed to measure it. If this is accepted, then the mind sense faculty, which is explained by the Samkhyas, etc., is also established in reality because there is no prohibition. If this is said, then the words speaking of various sense faculties would become meaningless. Furthermore, it is not reasonable to establish valid cognition and result as different. Because the determination of the result exists at the time of valid cognition, it is the nature of determination. Apart from itself, direct perception has no result of valid cognition for the object. The direct perception that knows the object, and the valid cognition that knows the distinctions of form, etc., is itself. If knowing other distinguished objects is said to be the result, then the knowledge that distinguishes universals, etc., is valid cognition, and the knowledge that distinguishes permanence, etc., is the result. Merely grasping the distinction is grasping the distinguisher, and grasping the distinguished is the basis for distinguishing. If one thinks this way, then the distinction is not knowledge there, because the two are different objects. The distinguishing consciousness does not have realization of that distinction. If the distinguishing consciousness becomes both valid cognition and what is to be measured, that is not possible, because then the consciousness to be distinguished would also become both. Even if the knowable is comprehended, the non-realization, etc., that existed in the previous continuum will be eliminated. Since direct perceptions arise merely by contact, what non-realization needs to be eliminated before that? Even if there is, it is merely non-elimination, so becoming what is to be measured is unbearable to examine. Non-existence cannot be the result of anyone. The elimination of non-realization, reversed realization, doubt, etc., that existed previously is not for all knowledge, because even without those, the arising of valid cognition is seen. Even if what existed previously is newly eliminated, elimination is merely non-existence, so it is not a result. The Vaisheshikas believe that the self, the sense faculty, and the mind, the three, meet in the object, from which what is accomplished?

It is because of other reasons. Regarding existence, etc., depending on the general and specific characteristics, and depending on things like pots, qualities like blue, and actions like walking, grasping "what is this" cannot be said to be direct perception. Because the sense consciousnesses are merely observing their own objects, they are not conceptual. Therefore, these five distinctions and the objects that possess distinctions should not be combined. The object to be grasped by multiple senses is not one; if it were one, then form and sound, etc., would also become one. When multiple senses see that the object to be grasped is not one, it is not that only one is seen from the multiple senses. If it were seen, then the other senses would become meaningless, because one object is seen by one sense. If the sense is its own object, then it can also grasp different things, just as one eye consciousness can grasp blue, yellow, etc. For each of the forms, etc., all the senses will also grasp their own objects, just like things, etc. It is not grasping things, numbers, and actions, etc. If the eye thinks, "The pot is rough," or when touching a pot that has already been seen in a dark room, if one thinks of grasping "the pot is white," etc., combining the base of distinction and the qualities of distinction, then for the objects of other senses, such as sound, smell and touch, etc., are not in the measurable objects, therefore they are not the objects of other senses. If it is thought that the meaning of distinction and action is the same as the object of the senses, and that the object of things and qualities, etc., is the same as the object of the senses, then things that do not want to depend on other things will also become dependent, because blue, etc., are considered to possess things. If proving difference by different senses is uncertain, then the object of the senses is called other, so there is no fault. If the objects are different, why is it uncertain? If the object of one sense is not one, why is it not certain? Also, the so-called different senses does not mean that one is trying to prove the difference of all senses, or the many differences of all senses. Even if there is no difference in the senses, because the mind is different, if one thinks that the six, such as words and meanings, are different, then in other aspects, what is the reason why color, shape, movement, etc., and things are pure and not different? Because different minds are seen for these, it is unreasonable. The Samkhyas consider that the five senses, such as the ears, are blessed by the mind and then enter the object as direct perception. The three objects of sound and quality
