Question: If there is a universal manifestation that can distinguish various tastes, then the truth of words lies in merely following worldly sayings, without seeking a universal manifestation, because it cannot be found that way. If it were not because universality and particularity are not different, then in very different things, why can the word "shape" be used for blue but not for taste? If that is the case, then that defect also applies to shape itself and universality. Just as taste and blue are similar in their differences, why is it that universality and particularity are not different, and one has it while the other does not? This needs to be examined through reasoning. Answer: There is a reason, because blue and so on can be perceived by the eyes, or exist in action, so the word "shape" can be used, while taste and so on do not have these. If that is the case, then substance, quantity, measurement, distinction, same, different, etc., will also become categories that can use the word "shape," because they are also considered to be perceptible by the eyes. Blue that is not white and yellow-red, etc., can be understood merely by the word "shape" without any difference. If it is not excluding others, then all individual meanings can be accomplished merely by following along. In short, if a word is used not through exclusion but because of some reason of the thing, then it can be understood as long as there is following along with that thing. That is, all things that can be perceived by the eyes can be understood by the same word "shape" without any difference, because there is a reason to use that word. Therefore, exclusion is merely what the speaker wants to exclude, not others. Words are not the reason for things. The whitest that is not white, etc., has no difference, because they are mixed with a partless universality. Understanding the individual through universal words is also because of the occasion and power of excluding others. This is important. Then, will you also fall into the realm of merely being the opposite? Answer: Although the pervasiveness of following along and the opposite are complete in meaning, we do not want to explicitly express them separately with words. By excluding others, following along and things, such as the word "tree," can exclude others. This is the same as the meaning of "not making two words," or even if other things are said, do not explicitly say the indivisible universality that pervades all manifestations, which needs to be examined. Although the words do not explicitly express the pervasiveness of following along and the opposite, they are complete in meaning. Also, according to your view of exclusion, if all things exclude or mix with non-existent things, then all things will become all that arises from non-existence.

It becomes completely non-existent. The main thing we have is like naturally wanting it to be. Exclusion means that there is no mutual existence, which is a distinction of excluding all non-existence, so all other exclusions are mixed with non-existence, if you admit that. Then, what you say about proving existence by being associated with many things is also non-existent, because it is mixed with many of its own distinctions. The nature of existence is constant, how can it be said to exist separately? If you say that all things are related to non-other or exclusion, then all things are the same as non-existence, which will be forced to admit. Then, the so-called existence is because it is related to the nature of many things, then what reason is there to say that? If the knowledge of existence and non-existence does not become different, but it is thought that both are, then like a horse and an ox, from the point of view of morphological changes, there is no mutual existence, but from the point of view of nature, they are the same. To this, if it is one, then it contradicts the different cognition, if different cognition arises, then it contradicts being one. Just like the nature of clay is the same, but the morphological changes are different, resulting in earthen bowls and pottery jars, etc. If it is thought that the nature is the same, but the morphological changes are different in cognition, then, even if the difference between previously non-existent and mutually non-existent does not cause the substance to become other, why deny the different cognition? Even if it should not be denied, but you still think it is the same, it is wrong. These two should not be the same, because in your treatise it says: The nature of the qualities and dharmas is supreme, that which has not become the path of manifestation is the ultimate truth. Like this, whatever has become the path of manifestation is the conventional truth, like illusion, it is very empty, but not the ultimate truth. These two are not one, because there is a difference between whether or not it has become the path of manifestation and the difference between conventional truth and ultimate truth. Even so, it is still thought that the dualistic appearance is a dualistic reality established in substance, therefore these two are contradictory. If it is said that there is no morphological change, and the main existence is the difference that excludes identity, then, the main thing is true, so the morphological change is also true. The morphological change is false, so the main thing is also false. If it is different, then the existence of nature will be lost. Also, for example, different trees exist clearly, but the cognition that arises to them is not different, for example, clinging to the black color seen as one, like...
