Ra. Merely measuring similarity is not effective; if understanding arises from similarity in one aspect, it is excessive. This is because it is impossible for everything to be identical. Even if mere similarity is ineffective, if understanding arises from differing qualities, then, for the sake of knowing that the subject also measures, refutes, and that the dissimilar side is not an example, the statement of differing qualities merely indicates that the dissimilar side and the object to be proven are simultaneously non-existent. Worldly people, like saying there is no fire in the river, merely state that the two do not exist, not as a sign. Even when expressed with an example of refutation, whether stating the reason for proving the object to be proven or merely stating its particular example, if it does not arise without it, does not show, and merely shows the object to be proven by similarity, it will become endless. To prove the object to be proven, just as a pot is impermanent because it is made, sound is also impermanent, not permanent like space. Or, just as a pot is impermanent, sound is also impermanent, not permanent like space. Whether the former is with a reason or the latter is merely its particular example. If it is not shown by stating the three modes of pervasion, but merely by similarity, then the impermanence of the pot is also other, and those are also other, etc., which will extend infinitely. If the first mode is merely the nature of the subject as the reason, and that example is different from the prover, then if only the subject is the reason, then the uncertain deluder will also become the reason, so the reason must have both subject and pervasion. If it is not each, but stating both examples does not become confusing, then in the nine cases of subject-property, whichever two are stated, confusion may arise. If only similar qualities are stated, then the measurable will also become the reason for proving sound is impermanent, and if only dissimilar qualities are stated, then the uncommon will also become correct. If it is said that stating both will not become confusing, then, among the nine cases, first, to prove that the conch sound is produced by effort through impermanence, even if showing both pot etc. and space etc., it is uncertain. Second, to prove that sound is permanent through non-touchability, even if showing the two examples of space and pot, it is uncertain. The correct example has been shown. There are three types of apparent examples: 1. The reason does not follow, 2. Neither the object to be proven nor the reason-property is present, 3. The similar forward example that contains a fault in meaning.

Sound is permanent because it is not tangible, like an extremely small particle, and like the action of the mind, like a pot, these three are in order. Moreover, this example lacks subsequent concomitance for the reason, and so on. There is no reversal from the dissimilar side, or entering into such examples, like three kinds of fallacies, sound is not permanent because it is tangible. Action and extremely small particles or space are in order. The two examples that show reversed concomitance are: establishing that what arises from effort is impermanent, using a pot as an example is a similar instance, and whatever does not arise from effort is permanent, for example, like space, this is a dissimilar example. These two are shown as reversed commitments. Pervasion is interchanged, if impermanent, it is not pervaded by being produced by effort. If it is produced by effort, it is pervaded by being impermanent. If it is not produced by effort, it is not pervaded by being permanent. If it is permanent, it is reversed by being pervaded by not being produced by effort. Examination. Not showing the reversed pervasion that is absent in the dissimilar side is also showing two kinds of examples of reversed concomitance, the example is a pseudo-mark, and other examples without concomitance are also faults of the example. Whoever speaks is pervaded by having attachment. Like the speech of people on the great road. This example is a fallacy that shows that there is no subsequent pervasion but it appears to be there. In total, there are six, three, and eighteen faults of examples, see elsewhere. In this case as well. Here also, there is no sign, no dharma, and neither of them, etc., and there is no correct example, and reversed concomitance, etc., as stated, those examples are because the relationship between the sign and the dharma is not well shown. Merely measuring the example is not related to what is to be known, it is a fallacy. This is an intermediate verse. From the establishment of debate, definitely showing the relationship of those signs and dharmas is the example, so it is said. If asked what kind of relationship should be stated? Whatever arises from effort is impermanent. Like this, although pervasion is not directly shown, it is definitely shown, so like a pot, it is considered correct. Merely using a pot as an example, if the relationship that it does not arise without it is not shown, it is not a correct example, and it should not be said to show the common relationship of those signs and dharmas, because those two signs and dharmas do not establish each other, because it is a relationship.
