And so it abides. It is said that "as the probans, only the property to be proven exists," and "the property exists only in the probans," the former does not become pervasive because it possesses others; the latter becomes pervasive because it does not possess. In short, the property is pervasive in the probans. The ascertainment that the probans exists in the property but is not pervasive is because there is a difference. Again, for example, since what is made and impermanence are equally pervasive, what is made becomes a probans, and also becomes a subject. For example, like lightning, one establishes the hidden impermanence with what is made, and one establishes the manifest what is made with impermanence. Even if the result, cause, and ability are established without obstruction, it is thought that just as the pervasive establishes the pervaded, it is also accepted that the probans pervades a single property. However, because that property is pervasive, it becomes a subject from that aspect. The aspect of the probans being pervasive is not what makes the subject understood, but rather the relationship between the probans and the property depends on certainty, just as having horns is not the way to understand a cow. For example, although having horns pervades a cow, one cannot understand a cow from having horns. In the parts where not made, permanent, etc. are individually negated, there is a mutual non-confusion. Although what is made pervades impermanence, it negates permanence, and thus it is understood that, similarly, impermanence pervades what is made, and also negates not made. That is because it depends on the relationship, and not merely on being pervasive. Therefore, it is true that just one probans pervades the subject, but it is not the one who makes it understood merely because it is pervasive. It is also said that what is made pervades destruction because of the relationship; not made does not pervade because it is contradictory. Not permanent does not pervade impermanence, but shows it with the meaning of not made. Having horns pervades a cow, so the cow avoids not being horned. For example, just as a bull pervades having horns, the meaning of a cow is not an elimination, because the two are not contradictory. These are the intermediate verses. From the beginning of arguing for establishment, seeing the meaning of not arising without, like the relationship between fire and smoke, is inferring that relationship with intelligence, that is, it is said that this makes it understood. When the valid means of inference sees that the probans and the property do not arise without, not arising without itself

If one merely wants to see its form, that is already accomplished, so there is no need to call it "that awareness." If, because of the term "that awareness," one describes it on top of other examples, then what would the example be like? Upon what, and what other dharma would one see? It is impossible to see, because this would only become wanting an example without similarities, so it is unreasonable. If one sees other things that would not arise without it, then how should one call it "seeing this"? Or, upon what, and what reason is there to see what? This is unreasonable. Even if it is not there, but if it is a subsequent inference, then seeing the pot, which is the object of the eye, would lead to inferring that sound is impermanent. If one says that "this meaning" refers to what is to be proven, then having already understood what is to be proven, what need is there to say that one understands what would not arise without it? Apart from what is seen on top of examples, such as the cause, sign, etc., like fire, etc., what other inferable "that awareness" is there? There is none. On top of sound, as the dharma to be proven, there are many aspects of meaning, how can one call all of these "awareness"? It is impossible. Those with reason say that the inference that follows the direct perception that grasps the self-character of the sign-dharma and the relationship between the sign-dharma is threefold: because the cause is prior and the effect is remaining, it is named as such. The prior is connected with the cause, inferring the effect from the cause, and inferring the cause from the effect is connected with the remaining, and generally seeing other things from other dharmas, like the moon setting behind the mountain, inferring that the sun will also change in that way, like seeing one dharma, knowing other very obscure things, this is called the general seer. The relationship between the sign-dharma is not the object of sensory direct perception, so it is not prior, etc. What is called connected with the prior, is it the same as the prior? Or is it named that way because it has the prior's dharma? If so, you have already admitted that all inferences are preceded by direct perception, so it is possible to be similar to the prior. If one examines what is called connected with the prior, if it is the same as the prior, then all inferences are possible, therefore it is not like the prior. If one infers the effect from the cause, it is because of the possibility of delusion, because of the possibility of obstacles, so it does not have the prior's dharma. For being connected with the remaining, is it like the prior's dharma? Or is the connection between the two the same as other things?
