One should advise with gentle words, saying, "Please abandon this kind of wrong view." When the monks advise a monk like the one with evil views in this way, if he abandons the root of the wrong view, that is good. If he does not abandon it, in order to make him abandon that root, he should be properly advised two or three times with the four karmas, and properly instructed. When he is properly advised two or three times and properly instructed, if he abandons that root, that is good. If he does not abandon it after saying it three times, he commits a downfall. Sixth, following those who have been expelled: Again, if a monk, like Nanda, knowingly says that even if he practices those things that the Blessed One has said are obstructive dharmas, they will not be obstructive, etc., with evil views, and does not abandon the evil views of a sinful person who has not acted according to the Dharma, and talks and speculates with him, and asks questions with ease, and gives him a place to stay, and gives him a dwelling, and enjoys his possessions, and sleeps with him in any of the four places for one night, unless it is because of illness or different views, he commits a downfall at the end of the night. Seventh, gathering those who have been expelled: Again, a novice like Thorns and Great One also says this: "The enjoyment of the five desirable qualities that the Blessed One said is an obstacle to the path or the practice of a śrāmaṇa, even if those things that are said are practiced, they will not become an obstacle to the practice of a śrāmaṇa. I understand the Dharma taught by the Blessed One in this way." The monks of this Dharma should advise a novice like Thorns and Great One in this way: "Novice, do not say that the desirable qualities that the Blessed One said are obstacles, even if they are practiced, will not become obstacles. Do not slander the Blessed One! Slandering the Blessed One will not make things better. Do not say that the Blessed One is immutable. Venerable novice, desirable qualities are obstacles to the path."
