. What are the six kinds of distraction? The distraction of self-nature refers to the five consciousnesses such as eye consciousness, etc., because their self-nature looks outward, so they arise from samadhi. Outward distraction refers to the mind consciousness chasing or entering external objects. Similarly, inward distraction refers to savoring the taste of samadhi, as well as agitation and lethargy. The distraction of signs refers to taking and clinging to signs with the thought of believing in samadhi itself. The distraction of bad rebirth refers to paying attention through ego-grasping, that is, with pride thinking that oneself is more superior than others, or it is called accompanied by ego-grasping. The distraction of attention refers to not being separated from the mind of the Lesser Vehicle, paying attention to the Lesser Vehicle, so there are six kinds of distraction. These six distractions are cut off, and the complete cessation of non-distraction, the still abiding, is the special still abiding of the Great Vehicle, which is abiding inwardly, single-mindedly, without fault. Moreover, merely clinging to one's own inner samadhi as liberation, etc., clinging to signs, and the samadhi of externalists accompanied by ego-grasping, etc., not only that, but also being separated from the attention of practicing by relying on the inferior path, therefore, wise people should know that this is the special still abiding of the Great Vehicle. Second, divide into two: brief explanation, detailed explanation. First, it is indicated by "letters, meanings," etc. The superior insight of the Great Vehicle is to realize the suchness and the all-suchness without error. This can also be summarized and indicated in ten ways: letters, meanings, attention, non-distraction, self-characteristics and general characteristics, that is, these two, pure impure pure, sudden, not abandoning, without arrogance, these ten are non-inverted. Second, the detailed explanation is the same as the brief explanation, also ten kinds: for the expressive letters, not inverted, for the expressed meaning, the completely imputed nature of no self-nature is not inverted, for the cause of dualistic appearance, the aspect of other-powered only-consciousness, the attention is not inverted, although it appears as two, but knowing that it is not real like illusion, therefore, for not falling into the two extremes, it is not inverted, for the perfectly established, the self-characteristic of being separated from the grasper and the grasped is not inverted, knowing that all dharmas do not exceed the thusness of the two emptinesses, dharma.

There is no confusion regarding the characteristics of generality. There is no confusion regarding the transformation into purity or impurity depending on whether or not one realizes its true nature. There is no confusion in knowing that the appearance of purity or impurity is also temporary because it abides in its own nature as pure. There is no confusion in not hating the fact that it reduces all afflictions because it is pure from the beginning. There is no confusion in not being arrogant due to the increase of qualities because there is no complete purification and increase. First, it is shown by "because of the connection," and so on. First, these letters that express are meaningful because they are connected one after another without confusion in the order, and because the sign established by the letters is familiar in the mind as a sign of what meaning. For example, like the word "pillar," when "pillar" is said first and "-ar" is said after and expressed in connection, it is understood as the thing that plays a supporting role. If "-ar" is said first and "pillar" is said after, or if they are separated and expressed without connection, that meaning cannot be understood. Moreover, the sign of these two letters arranged in this way, for Tibetans who are already familiar with the sign of the thing that plays a supporting role, this sign makes them understand that meaning. Just as people from other places cannot understand it. Therefore, the sign is meaningful because of familiarity and connection. Conversely, letters are meaningless because of disconnection and unfamiliarity. Understanding in this way is not confusing about letters, that is, the way letters understand meaning from signs is like this, it is only because the connection is newly established and designated by the understanding of people. Apart from that, name and meaning are not related by their own nature. In this way, it is determined that there is no confusion in the way of understanding meaning from letters. From this, Bodhisattvas will generate conceptual thoughts that are separated from the meaning to be expressed by words for the ultimate meaning. Second, the meaning is shown by "appearing as two," and so on. In this way, what appears as the two, grasper and grasped, is not as it appears, although it appears, it is not true. Understanding in this way is called not confusing about meaning, because it is not established as two, so it abandons the extreme of existence, and it is only an appearance, so it abandons the extreme of non-existence, it is its meaning or nature. From this, arises the understanding that is free from grasper and grasped.
