Therefore, this is called the reasoning that relies on establishing the cause from the result. The second reasoning is: Since all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are inseparable and of one taste with emptiness or suchness, the great primordial luminosity, there is also no difference between Buddhas and sentient beings in ultimate truth, that is, the equality of samsara and nirvana. Therefore, even those who appear as sentient beings transformed by temporary delusion have not moved even slightly from the true nature of reality, the Dharma nature, and are established by the reasoning of the Dharma nature, so it is certain that they possess the Buddha-nature. If the existence of the lineage is established merely by being inseparable in suchness, then it would follow that earth, stones, etc. also have the lineage. The so-called lineage must be established on the faultless cause of the Buddha, which is the increase of wisdom that does not err in the nature of knowledge, having completely abandoned the two obscurations arising from the power of the deluded mind. If that is not mind, then since there is no path to be cultivated for inanimate objects such as earth and stones, even if they are inseparable in suchness in name, it is not necessary to establish that they have the lineage. Because earth, stones, etc. appear by the power of mind, and mind does not arise by the power of external objects such as earth and stones, it should be understood by the example of the appearance of a dream and the knowledge that ascertains it. Knowing that this mind, the agent of the three realms, possesses the Dharma-nature Tathagatagarbha, the nature of ultimate virtue and uncontaminated, abiding like moisture in water, therefore the appearances of samsara and nirvana are merely the play of the individual consciousnesses and wisdoms, and there is no need for them to be different entities. In the true meaning, all appearances that have not moved from the state of Dharma-nature, primordially enlightened, do not transcend the state of the Tathagatas, and we firmly believe in this. The third reasoning, the meaning of "because there is lineage," is: all sentient beings have the lineage of being able to attain Buddhahood, because it is established that temporary stains can be removed, and it is established that the Dharmakaya, which possesses innate qualities, is present without difference. Thus, if there is a lineage of being able to attain Buddhahood, then all those embodied beings are certainly endowed with the essence of Buddhahood from beginningless time, because they have the state of attaining Buddhahood, and the Dharmakaya of the Buddha is also established as unconditioned, so there is no difference of good or bad in the aspect of the essence between before and after. By this reasoning

Understanding that effects arise from causes is the principle of how things work. Here, it's not just inferring an effect simply because there's a cause. Rather, it's because the nature of reality, the suchness, doesn't change. It has no good or bad in terms of the time of the effect or its essence. And because temporary defilements, no matter how long they persist, can be separated, the key is that this nature can never be wasted in attaining Buddhahood. Thus, having the nature of a cause is no different from the Dharmakaya at the time of the effect, and its essence. If the Dharmakaya exists at the time of the effect, then it must also exist without increase or decrease during the time of sentient beings. Although cause and effect, and before and after, are nominally designated, in reality, the principle is that they are of one taste in the unchanging essence of the Dharmadhatu. These three establish that all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha (Buddha-nature), and it is through the power of things that one enters the correct path of reasoning. Thus, the reasoning that establishes the existence of the Sugatagarbha in sentient beings ultimately leads to ultimate liberation and the attainment of the One Vehicle. Otherwise, the reasoning to establish it would become endless. Therefore, those who have faith in the supreme vehicle must cultivate wisdom in this area. Likewise, even though all phenomena are established as emptiness through the reasoning that examines ultimate truth, this does not negate the qualities of the essence, because even though there are unsurpassed qualities, it is also acknowledged that the essence is emptiness. Therefore, the teaching of the intermediate turning of the wheel, that all phenomena are empty, is established as such, because the Tathagatagarbha is also of the nature of emptiness. However, the teaching of the essence, distinguished by the inseparability of the form that has the nature of emptiness and the appearance of wisdom, is the intention of the definitive Sutras of the final turning of the wheel. Therefore, from that aspect alone, it surpasses the intermediate turning of the wheel. The highest praise for the meaning of the final turning of the wheel in the Sutras, Intentions, and Commentaries also belongs to the measure there, and it is spoken of from the aspect of the definitive meaning of the essence that is taught. Therefore, the emptiness taught in the intermediate turning of the wheel and the form and wisdom taught in the final turning must be included in the union of clarity and emptiness. The sections on the definitive meaning of the intermediate and final (turnings) must be regarded as definitive without any distinction.
