Commentary on the Treatise of the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras, Oral Teachings of Mipham. Commentary on the Treatise of the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras, Oral Teachings of Mipham. Commentary on the Treatise of the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras, Oral Teachings of Mipham. Namo Guruve. All-knowing, possessing the four reliances, Great Regent and Sons of the Conquerors, To those who illuminate the excellent path of definitive meaning, I prostrate with respect through the three doors. The nature of mind, primordially stainless, Is the very essence of Definitive Meaning Manjushri the Hero. With the sharp stream of the sword of definitive reasoning, It completely severs the net of samsara's universal delusion. Here, the essence of the speech of all the Buddhas who have gone to the three times, the heart of their intention, the single key point of all the teachings of Sutra and Tantra, is none other than this all-pervading Tathagatagarbha. This clearly shows the Treatise of the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras. There are four meanings in explaining this: The meaning of the title that accords with the meaning, The general prostration that accomplishes the great meaning, The actual treatise that possesses the supreme meaning, And the way in which it was well translated. The first two are not different. First, in Sanskrit: Mahāyāna Uttaratantraśāstra. In Tibetan: The Treatise of the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras. Mahāyāna is the Great Vehicle. Uttara is the Supreme. Tantra is the Continuum. Śāstra is the Treatise. The explanation of the title is as follows: Vehicle, because it carries, is the Vehicle, the Vehicle of the cause. Because it carries here, it is the Vehicle, the Vehicle of the result. Great is: Object and practice, wisdom, diligence and effort, skillful means and accomplishment, and great activity. It possesses the seven greatnesses. Continuum is continuous. The main subject of this is the Tathagatagarbha, which is the continuous basis, path, and result. Or it is similar to a continuum. The element is like the continuum of the cause, and the conditions that purify the defilements of the element, such as the three enlightenments, are like the continuum of the means. Therefore, the three jewels of the result are like the continuum of the result. Supreme is unsurpassed and particularly excellent, because it shows the seven vajra places that are difficult to understand in the definitive meaning of the sutras. Treatise is freed from the cause, afflictions.

It is said that like the fruit of a tree, it can protect from evil destinies and samsara. In the "Commentary on Logic," it says: "That which subdues all the enemies of afflictions, and protects from evil destinies and samsara, is called a treatise for the sake of the qualities of subduing and protecting. These two are not found in other schools." It is like this. This name is derived from the subject matter and the function. Secondly, in order to awaken from the sleep of ignorance and to increase the wisdom of the Buddhas and Bodhi, with an unwavering mind, I prostrate to all Bodhisattvas, which was composed by the translator. Thirdly, there are three meanings: one is establishing the self, two is explaining the branches in detail, and three is the complete and ultimate activity. Establishing the self has three meanings: one is the summary meaning, two is combining the scriptures, and three is the definite order. These three are each a verse. In order for the disciples to easily understand in sequence and avoid adding or subtracting, and in order for the speaker to easily explain without confusing the treatise, it is indicated by the summary meaning. That is, the Buddha who has perfected the two meanings, and the Dharma of the nature of the two truths free from attachment, and the Sangha who is irreversible because of possessing the two wisdoms, and the realm to be realized and the Bodhi of that realm free from defilements, and the qualities of that freedom and maturity, and the power of the qualities of the means of realization, the activity of the Buddha is the last of the seven numbers. There is no more concluding statement than this. Thus, the body or summary of all the branches of the treatise to be explained is, in short, these seven places of the Vajra. For this, such a meaning of what is said or the seven places, is the meaning of the unspeakable, each self-aware. Because it is difficult to measure with the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, and cannot be distinguished by conceptual thought, it is similar to a precious material Vajra, which can overcome others, and nothing can overcome it. Therefore, the speakers of the meaning of what is said like the Vajra, are also the places that clearly show those meanings and make them understood, or as the basis or foundation, so they are called places. Or, wherever the Dharma like the Vajra exists, it is established there, and its speaker also obtains that name. If you ask from which scripture these seven places are taught, then combining the principles stated in each Sutra, the Three Jewels are supreme.
