One's own roots of virtue, dedication, and aspiration mutually represent each other, connecting without distinction between upper and lower. Secondly, regarding the nature of meditative equipoise, the path of meditation without outflows, there are two: the path of meditation that accomplishes manifest qualities and the path of meditation that becomes pure, the pure path of meditation. Firstly, the nature of meditative equipoise, being without outflows, is the wisdom that directly realizes freedom from elaboration. This is the chief of all the qualities of the path or the most excellent in terms of qualities. If this is not grasped, the other perfections will not attain Buddhahood, so the other perfections are grasped by this and attain unsurpassed enlightenment, therefore this is the most excellent. The sutra says: The Prajnaparamita is extremely pure, therefore it illuminates. And so on. The distinction is that from form to omniscient wisdom, in all phenomena, without clinging to truth or clinging to characteristics, having realized freedom from elaboration, one does not manifestly accumulate because of accomplishing it, and in the state of fruition, the meaning of abiding without any object of focus in the phenomena is initiated and entered into the continuum of the meditator, and the ultimate result is the accomplishment of the great and unsurpassed omniscient wisdom of Buddhahood. Secondly, there are two aspects: cause and nature. First, there are two causes: the cause of arising and, incidentally, the cause of not arising. The first is: the cause of the pure path of meditation is: the external condition of relying on many Buddhas who are pleased for a long time, and the internal condition of perfecting the perfections such as giving for many eons, and whoever is skilled in the means of meditating on calm abiding without object of focus and free from elaboration, that is the cause of faith in this pure path of meditation. Sengzang cut off the cause of the pure path of meditation arising or not arising downwards. Shantipa cut it upwards and spoke of it as the cause of accomplishing the path of meditation. The second is: the opposing condition to that, the obscuration of lacking the profound Dharma of the meaning of the Mother, that is, the cause of abandoning is: because of small merit, being oppressed and harmed by the density of demons, that is, by power, and that also makes one stiff, makes one foolish, makes one extremely foolish, makes one faint, and makes one mindless. The five flower arrows cause the five poisons to blaze. Because one has not trained in the lineage of the Great Vehicle, one does not believe in the profound Dharma of freedom from elaboration, and because one is not accustomed to the selflessness of phenomena, one clings to the aggregates and other mundane things.

Attachment to things as real and intense clinging, and not associating with virtuous friends, being completely seized by sinful friends, which separates one from the Prajnaparamita of non-objectification, is the cause of non-arising. Secondly, there are two aspects: a general presentation of purity and a detailed explanation. First, the sutra of purity states: "Subhuti, whatever is pure form, that is pure fruit." And so on, this is a general presentation. In detail, the purity of the Hearers is the purity of the three poisons, and the non-duality of the purity of form, etc.; the purity of the Solitary Realizer is the purity of one side of the cognitive obscurations, pure form results in pure fruit, pure fruit results in pure Prajnaparamita, etc.; from the purity of ignorance to the purity of action; the Bodhisattva's purity of generosity results in the purity of discipline, etc., up to the complete purity of the path. The nature of purity is the object-possessing realization is the fruit of the ascetic, at the time of the path of liberation, the wisdom that abandons what is to be abandoned, such as the belief in reality, is the purity of the object, such as form, etc. What is the reason for this? Because realizing that the pillar and pot are empty of inherent existence, the belief in reality is purified, that is, the truth on the object, the pillar and pot, is pure from the beginning, and is of the same taste as that purity. After realizing purity in this way, there is no other impurity on the pillar and pot themselves, just as seeing form when the eye disease is purified. The purity of each one's abandonment is not like the exhaustion of all impurities once one becomes a Buddha. The purity of the object and the object-possessor, these two, are inseparable from the grasper and the grasped, and cannot be separated by the mind, and because their nature is not different, they are not different kinds. Because there are no many limbs and parts, the mind cannot divide them, therefore it is called purity. From the way the obscurations of the belief in reality and the conceptual clinging of dualistic appearance are purified in the mind, the fruits of the three vehicles of realization are established. When the object-possessor is so pure, just like the vision of purified eye disease, because the nature of the object is seen as it is, so the object also appears as pure. And these two purities are not different, the purity of the mind is due to seeing the nature of the object, and the purity of the object is naturally abiding in that way, not because the mind has transformed it into purity. In reality, all phenomena are great purity from the beginning, although they already abide in the nature of stainlessness, but the white conch, the eye
