If asked, can earth and other elements truly eliminate afflictions? These four immeasurable minds do not actually eliminate harmful thoughts, etc., because the earth meditation itself is not an antidote to be eliminated, and its own nature has not been integrated into it, so it cannot be truly eliminated. Even if it is eliminated, it is through the practice of these that the object to be eliminated is suppressed, and it is said to be an antidote in order to prolong the actual time. Elimination is achieved through the worldly path of proximity and the transcendental path of realizing the truth. If one obtains the immeasurable that is actually contained here, even strong conditions cannot destroy it. However, according to the school that believes that the desire realm and proximity exist, afflictions are suppressed through practice, and the paths of non-interruption, etc., can truly eliminate them. Seventh, these immeasurable minds are first generated by the wise among the impure. Eighth, except for joy, if the other three possess one, they must possess all three, because joy and pleasure are not possessed on the grounds of the third and fourth dhyanas. This is also in terms of attainment, because the direct perception of dhyana is contradictory, so they are possessed individually. Fifth, regarding the explanation of liberation, etc., it is divided into two types: separately explaining the eight liberations, etc., and the common way of obtaining them. First, it is divided into three types: explaining the eight liberations, explaining the eight victories, and explaining the ten pervasions. First, it is divided into two types: the essence and the objects of these. First, it is divided into two types: teaching and explanation. First, there are also the liberation of those with form contemplating form, the liberation of those without form contemplating form, the impure liberation, the four types of infinite space, etc., and the eight types of liberation such as the cessation attainment. Second, it is divided into explaining the first two liberations, explaining the third liberation, explaining the four formless liberations, and explaining the four types of cessation attainment liberation. First, it is divided into two types: the aspect and where the ground is. First, the first two liberations are taken as objects by means of separate cultivation, etc., and the essence is the nature of impurity, so there is no attachment. Second, the ground is different, because there is no eye consciousness above the second dhyana, so there is no attachment to color. If there is no attachment to the object, then there is no attachment to the consciousness that possesses the object, just like nose and tongue consciousness. Therefore, because it is an antidote to the attachment to color in the desire realm and the first dhyana ground, it only exists in the first two dhyanas. Moreover, it is the pure one and the one actually contained.

Because it is the antidote to ideation, is it merely suppression? It is an antidote to severing, but not actual abandonment. Second, where is it located? There are two entities. First, the third, the foulness contemplation liberation, is in the fourth dhyana's extremity. Second, it is also the antidote to attachment, so its essence is non-attachment, but it has the aspect of foulness, so it is not unpleasant. Therefore, one transforms pleasant forms and views them as foul, and because one directly realizes it with the body of samadhi, it is called by that name. These three, together with their retinue, have the nature of the five aggregates because they have accompanying form. The purpose of foulness contemplation is to overcome discouragement, praise qualities, and awaken experiences. The reason why foulness contemplation is not shown in the first three dhyanas is that they have joy and happiness, so if one contemplates foulness in the mind, if one craves that object, non-attachment will not be accomplished, because it is a dhyana with faults, so it is thought that it will not be accomplished. The liberations of yogis, such as cessation, etc., are cultivated in order to sever afflictions and attain freedom in entering samadhi. Third, the virtuous non-form samadhi is pure, and only the uncontaminated are liberations; those with afflictions and those who have not entered samadhi, such as the mind of dying, are not liberations. Some believe that in the formless realms, there are minds and mental factors born from maturation, and they think that there are also minds that have not entered samadhi other than the dying mind. According to the former view, non-form non-samadhi is only the mind and mental factors of the state of dying craving. Not only the actual formless realm, but also the approximation and the path of liberation obtain the name of liberation, but the uninterrupted path does not obtain the name of liberation, because liberation turns its back on the lower realm. Because it focuses on the lower realm. Fourth, the essence, and with what mind does one enter it? And with what mind does one arise from it? These three are shown. First, the eighth, the liberation of cessation, is like the absorption of cessation previously described in the second place. Why are these called liberations? Because they turn their backs on attachment to colors, and discouragement and attachment, and the perception of form, and all of perception and feeling or formations. End.
