In the explanation at Gyêrak, there are two aspects: the teachings and the explanations. What makes generosity superior to others is due to the distinctions of the giver, the object, and the field, these three. The second part has three distinctions: the giver's distinction, the object's distinction, and the field's distinction. First, the giver is superior because they are held by faith and so forth, possessing the seven noble riches such as discipline, and being content with little desire. The manner is to give with respect and so forth, from one's own hand, at a time when it is needed by others, and without harming others. The sutra says there are five noble generosities: faith, respect, abiding in oneself, timeliness, and giving based on not harming others. Not harming others means not giving stolen goods, or giving a sheep to a butcher, which is the object to be given, and not giving poison or unsuitable food, which would harm the field. Furthermore, the Sutra of the Increase of the Righteous says to abandon the thirty-two impure generosities and accomplish pure, special generosities. For example, the giver views things perversely and gives without faith, gives in return for a favor, gives inferior things, gives to fire and flames out of desire, gives to water, gives to the king in order to fully understand oneself, gives to robbers and so on out of fear, gives poison, gives weapons, kills sentient beings and gives meat, gives alcohol to the reckless, gathers sentient beings thinking, "This will become mine, my attendant and offering," gives in order to obtain, gives for the sake of praise, sounds, and verses, gives to musicians for the sake of dance, song, laughter, play, talk, and joy, gives to astrologers for the sake of astrological signs, gives another's wealth to a friend, delights in seeing wild animals and birds eating another's field or pile of grain, gives for the sake of craftsmanship, gives to a doctor out of fear due to bodily discomfort, gives to beggars with harsh words, making them angry before giving, gives while doubting the results of generosity, gives and then regrets and suffers, and after giving, takes everything back from oneself.

Now, generating the thought to give so that I may receive again in the next life; generating the thought to give so that I may enjoy the fruits of giving and not let them go to others; giving because of youth; if one is saddened by old age and death, giving to the object of giving by letting the limbs such as hands and feet act without joy or faith in the Buddha; giving in order to be famous in other places; seeing that worldly people dislike those who are unwilling to give food, giving with the thought that the world will tolerate the fault of my forced giving; giving for the sake of women; giving because one has no son, thinking that I should send things far away; giving with the thought that by giving in this life, I will gain in the next; abandoning the poor and giving to the rich. These givings are not without results, just like sowing bad seeds in a salty field. Because the field and the seeds are bad, the fruit is also bad. There are several different views on this. Therefore, by giving respectfully, one gains respect. By giving with one's own hands, one gains great enjoyment and independent wealth. By giving at the right time, one gains what one needs when one needs it. By giving without harming, one's enjoyment is not obstructed by enemies, etc. Second, regarding the object: by giving objects that are complete with color, smell, taste, and touch, in the next life, one will have a beautiful form due to color, fame due to fragrance, joy due to taste, a very youthful body, and a touch like a precious woman, warm when cold, cool when hot, and normal at other times, thus obtaining a body that generates happiness when touched at the right time. Third, there are two types: the main and the incidental. The first type has two

From the basis of generosity, such as giving to the sick, attendants, or during times of cold, it is said to have great benefits. It is like giving to the poor who are poorer than the rich, to the hungry ghosts who are poorer than the poor, and to those who are more vulnerable than them, even a drop of water has great benefits. Benefactors can be parents or others, just as in the stories of being born as bears and deer, they are beneficial to oneself. The field of merit is, as stated in the Gautama Sutra: If you give to the virtuous, you should expect a hundred thousand times the ripening result. If you give to those who have entered the stream, the ripening result is immeasurable. Even better than that, it is said to be immeasurable for those who abide in the stream-entry fruit. Such fields should be understood as particularly excellent fields. Secondly, the best of all material generosity is giving from those liberated from the three realms to those who are liberated, because it is completely pure from all doors. Or, as it says, a Bodhisattva gives for the benefit of all sentient beings, even though the unliberated give to the unliberated, it is supreme because it is for perfect enlightenment and the benefit of all sentient beings. Also, the sutra says: Giving to relatives, giving out of fear, giving for oneself, giving because it will be given to oneself, giving because of the giving of my parents and ancestors in the past, giving for the sake of heaven, giving for fame, giving for the sake of the adornment of the mind, giving for the sake of the equipment of the mind, giving for the sake of the assembly of yoga, giving for the sake of attaining the supreme meaning. Among those eight kinds of giving that are mentioned, the eighth, giving for the sake of the adornment of the mind, etc., is also shown to be supreme. Among them, closeness means giving to those who are very close. The adornment of the mind is miraculous power, the equipment of the mind is the eightfold noble path, the assembly of yoga is shamatha and vipassana, and the supreme meaning is Arhatship or Nirvana, as explained by the prince, Glorious Friend. Gangpel explains that the four, such as the adornment of the mind, are in order: guiding wealth such as faith, contradicting the stain of miserliness, generating the bliss of meditative absorption, and guiding to Nirvana. Sakya Pandita says that the supreme meaning is the supreme Nirvana attained by a mind without contamination.
