Explanation of the Teaching on Karma Explanation of the Teaching on Karma Second, regarding the cause, the truth of origination, there are two types of origination: the origination of karma and the origination of afflictions. In the first case, there are two aspects: the actual occasion for teaching karma and the name for summarizing the occasion. In the first case, there are two aspects: connecting the context and actually explaining karma. First, from various good and non-good karmas, various good and bad things of the container and essence world are born. Second, there are two aspects: the nature of karma and the categories that appear in the sutras. In the first case, there are two aspects: teaching and explanation. First, common and individual karmas are thought (cetanā) and the actions caused by it, namely, the two types of karma of thought (cetanā-karma). Thought is a mental factor, and together with the mind element and its associated mental factors, it is the mind's activity towards the object of karma. If it is said that mind also becomes manifest and non-manifest, the non-manifest depends on dependent origination and does not depend on mind. Karma also depends on conditions, so karma alone cannot be regarded as the cause. Moreover, it is not only the result of maturation (vipāka), but the result of action (puruṣakāra-phala) is more important. This world is also accomplished by attachment to the body and objects. The karma of thought produced by it has two types: body karma and speech karma. Body karma depends on the body, so it is the karma of the body. Speech is the nature of speech itself is karma. From mind, because it is caused by mind, it is considered karma. These body and speech karmas have two types: manifest (vijñapti) and non-manifest (avijñapti) karma. Second, there are two aspects: detailed explanation of thought karma and general classification of karma. In the first case, there are two aspects: explaining the manifest and explaining the non-manifest. In the first case, there are two aspects: explaining body manifest and explaining speech manifest. In the first case, there are three aspects: explaining the Vaibhāṣika view, refuting the Sthavira view, and stating the Sautrāntika view. First, for the body's manifest form, the Vaibhāṣikas believe that prostration, walking, killing, etc., are different shapes and characteristics from the body, and are established as real entities. Moreover, the body of maturation is unspecified, so good and non-good, which are different from it, are not the body. In the case of manifest actions such as prostration, there must be a distinctive shape of body movement. That's what they think. Moreover, it exists from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, is as clear as light, and is contained within the body of maturation, so it does not become large and heavy, just like fire entering a forest. That's what they say.

So it is. Secondly, the debaters of the Sthavira school say: In general, apart from conditioned phenomena such as mind, mental factors, sound, flame, lightning, and flowing water, they do not accept that they are momentary. If they encounter the cause of destruction, then they are impermanent at that time, and in between they consider them to be permanent. If the action of the body is an activity, then it is the movement of the body, and not the immobility of the type. Thus, whatever shape the mind focuses on, the body also arises in that same shape. Moreover, they believe that while the function that exists in another place does not disappear, it will go to another place, and the shape of the body will not disappear either. In this regard, the body itself moves without stopping for a moment, and it is only going to another direction, not the shape. Moreover, it only exists in the moving, heavy, and shaking body, and not in others, so it is said that the function of the body is only moving. They also believe that all things are momentary, so although there is going to another place, they assume that they are going moment-by-moment, like a fire on grass. It is impossible to go to another place without the function disappearing, because all conditioned phenomena are momentary, and in the second moment, they will perish without relying on other causes. The so-called destruction without relying on other causes and without cause, the key is that destruction is the destruction of the thing itself, and the vase does not need other causes than the cause of its own formation. The opponent says: There is no destruction without a cause, because the destruction of vases etc. depends on a hammer, and the destruction of cold depends on heat etc. Then, what is called destruction, does it mean that vases etc. do not exist, or does it mean things different from vases, or does it mean the destruction of themselves? If it is the first case, then it is contradictory to act on non-existent things with hammers etc. If it is the second case, then it becomes not the cause of the destruction of vases etc. If it is the third case, then it is produced by its own cause. If it is not produced, then destruction becomes not the self of vases etc. Even if you say so, you must explain it according to the Sravastika school's own tenets. Like this, if another new cause of destruction is needed, then none of the things like lightning etc. that do not have other causes of destruction will perish. Because without a cause, it will not perish. If it perishes naturally without a cause, then the saying that destruction needs to depend on a cause is lost. In response, the Vaibhashikas believe that the cause of destruction of mind etc. is that the next moment of each arises, so the previous moment perishes. Then, these at the same time
