It is believed to have appeared at the very end. The first countless aeon began with Shakyamuni Buddha. The Mahayana tradition believes that in each countless aeon, countless Buddhas are revered. When one gives all inner and outer possessions to all sentient beings with compassion, without expecting any high-minded motivation, the perfection of generosity is fulfilled at that time. Giving with unattached compassion is seen in the Jataka tales. The Vinaya-mula-sarvastivada says that at the time of the bodhisattva's great generosity, the perfection of generosity is fulfilled. Whenever one's limbs are cut off even while being attached to desire, but the mind is not disturbed, that is patience; abstaining from the misdeeds of body and speech fulfills the perfection of discipline. This is also as in the chapter on patience. When the teacher became a Brahmin boy, he saw the Buddha Star King entering the fire element samadhi in a cave on a mountain, and standing on one leg for seven days, he praised him with one verse, saying, "An ascetic like you, the best of men," thus fulfilling the perfection of diligence, and that praise also purified the accumulation of nine kalpas. Immediately before enlightenment, in the Vajra Samadhi of the ultimate continuity, with the ultimate meditation as the support, that is samadhi; with the wisdom of ultimate insight, like Vajra-like wisdom, the perfection of wisdom or prajna is fulfilled. Secondly, there are three aspects of virtue: three objects of meritorious activity, four kinds of Brahma's merit, and an explanation of three similarities. The first has two parts: a summary and a detailed explanation. First, the three bases of meritorious activity arising from generosity, discipline, and meditation are taught. These are merit because their results are pleasing, and activity because they are the nature of karma. Relying on these three is also the basis for the arising of the mind of motivation, just as the seven branches of body and speech are both karma and path. Among these, the actions of body and speech arising from generosity are all three: merit, activity, and basis. The mind of motivation is merit and activity, while the corresponding dharmas, such as feelings, are only merit. What arises from discipline is only the action of body and speech, so it is all three. The loving-kindness arising from meditation is both merit and basis, and the corresponding

It is for the sake of making the mind act. The mind that arises together with it, and the discipline of contemplation, are both merit and action. Loving-kindness and the feelings that arise together with it are solely merit. Or, in order to accomplish these three, since one engages in the application of merit, these three are called the basis of meritorious action. That basis is the meaning of cause. Some say that the actual object of meritorious action, in the ultimate sense, is a virtuous mind, and that the three, such as generosity, are the basis of that virtuous mind. Secondly, there are two aspects: the detailed explanation of generosity and so on, and the examination of which is primary as an aside. In the first, there are three explanations: generosity, discipline, and meditation. In the first, there are three aspects: general, specific, and dispelling doubts. In the first, there are three aspects: nature, result, and for whom the three kinds of generosity are given. In the first, there are two aspects: nature and division. First, the act of generosity is when a giver, with a virtuous mind, gives possessions to others. Secondly, generosity arises from the intention to make offerings to a good object of intention, and from the intention to benefit those who are equal or inferior to oneself, not from expectations, fears, and so on. That action is also the mind that arises from all actions of body and speech, together with its corresponding factors. The expression "arising from generosity" refers to the nature of generosity, and is spoken in that way, just as one speaks of a pavilion arising from leaves. It should be understood in the same way for the following ones as well. Therefore, generosity is the five aggregates. Secondly, the result of that generosity is to have great enjoyment. Thirdly, giving for our own benefit is when a noble one who has not abandoned desire, or an ordinary being who has abandoned desire through the worldly path, gives to a stupa, benefiting oneself but not the stupa. Giving for the benefit of others is when a noble one who has abandoned desire gives to other sentient beings. It is said that they have transcended desire and that the ripening of generosity is included in desire, benefiting others but not oneself. Giving for the benefit of both is when a noble one with desire, or an ordinary being who has abandoned desire, gives to other sentient beings. Giving for the benefit of neither is when a noble one who has abandoned desire for the desire realm, except for what has been seen and heard, makes offerings to a stupa, because it is offered purely out of respect and gratitude. Secondly, special generosity
