Taking what is not given is to seize another's property or power by robbery or to take possession of it secretly without being noticed. Once the thought of acquiring a manifest object arises, it becomes an actual act. Here, it should be understood as intentional and not unintentional. Treasures, stupa objects, and the belongings of the deceased, if owned by the local owner, the guardian of the property, relatives, or the Sangha, constitute taking what is not given. Third, the four situations in which one should not engage in sexual misconduct. Because of the desire to engage in sexual activity, one engages in misconduct, so there are four types of sexual misconduct: places where one should not engage in sexual activity, non-limbs, non-places, and non-times. The first refers to women who are already occupied by others, as well as mothers, daughters, parents, and relatives within seven generations. Among them, nuns are occupied by the local owner, young women are occupied by the person to whom they are betrothed, and if there is no betrothal, they are occupied by parents or brothers, etc., and if there is no other guardian, they must even obey the king. Hermaphrodites, animals, etc., born from root consciousness, etc., are also considered objects with whom one should not engage in sexual activity. The second refers to engaging in sexual activity in other traumatic places such as the mouth and anus. Even if it is one's own wife, if one engages in sexual misconduct, what more need be said of others? In terms of time, exceeding five times is also explained from the Compendium, and it is acceptable to include non-times as well. Third, in places with light, in front of many people, on uneven ground that is harmful to it, on fragile ground, etc., as well as in stupas, temples, in the presence of parents, teachers, gurus, monks, etc., even one's own wife constitutes sexual misconduct. Fourth, during pregnancy, breastfeeding, when illness makes sexual activity inappropriate, during grief, displeasure, and during times of fasting during the day. Here, too, one should understand in conjunction with intention and non-unintentionality. Second, regarding the four: lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter. First, it is divided into truth and sixteen types of falsehoods derived from truth. First, lying is when the speaker knows that what is said is not in accordance with the facts, but with the intention of changing the other person's perception, speaks words that are not in accordance with the facts, and the words and meanings correspond, so that the other person clearly understands. Here, too, one should understand in conjunction with intention and non-unintentionality. The clear correspondence of words and meanings should also apply to divisive speech, etc., and should be understood as such. Second

Pa. Then, in the Sutra of Eight Sections, it is said that there are sixteen terms for noble and non-noble beings. Among the four—seeing, hearing, discerning, and knowing—the eight terms of ordinary people are false, namely, saying "not seeing" about seeing, and so on, and saying "seeing" about not seeing, and so on. The eight terms of noble beings are true, namely, saying "seeing" about seeing, "hearing" about hearing, and so on, and saying "not seeing" about not seeing, and so on. What are the four, such as seeing, that are mentioned in the sutra? What is experienced by eye consciousness, and similarly, what is experienced by ear consciousness, and what is experienced by mind consciousness, and what is experienced by the three—nose, tongue, and body consciousness—are seeing, hearing, knowing, and discerning, which are explained in order. Moreover, the latter three—smell, taste, and touch—are unspecified and neither obscuring nor unspecified, so they do not produce ripening results and are weak like a dead person, so they are called discerning. It is said that the word "discerning" also implies death. Some say that these three are unspecified like a corpse. Moreover, in the sutra asked by the mother of the offering maker, it is said in conjunction with the six objects and faculties, and then the four—seeing, discerning, and so on—are mentioned. Since the objects of the three—eye, ear, and mind—are indicated by their own names, it is said that the rest can be understood by meaning. Dundzang says that encountering an object is established as discerning. Some say that seeing is what is directly perceived by the consciousness based on the five objects and five faculties, hearing is knowing all six objects by hearing from others, discerning is understanding the six objects by inferring from one's own intelligence, and knowing is what becomes manifest in the mind, recognized by the direct perception of meditation, which is said to be the meaning of the sutra. Yogis say that seeing is what is seen by the eye, hearing is what is heard by the ear or comes from others, discerning is what is thought by oneself, and knowing is what is understood by the power of meditation on the past and future. If one asks whether killing is only a physical act, it is not, because the angry mind of a sage and ordering others to kill with words are complete, and similarly, making a bodily gesture of non-existence about something that exists, and fasting, and so on, if one asks whether these are so, if one knowingly does not confess, it is called mental lying.
