It is said that feeling is taught in many grounds, namely, the three grounds with investigation and analysis, the three grounds of virtue, etc., and the grounds that are neither learning nor non-learning. It means that feeling exists in all these grounds, but it is not intended that feeling pervades all minds. The venerable Palena said that the mind with contact has the feeling born from the previous moment of contact, so it will not fail to pervade all minds. However, for the mind that has just arisen from the state of non-mind, there is no feeling, and when another consciousness arises immediately after the eye consciousness, it would be without contact and feeling. Therefore, if it is said that this pervades all minds, then simultaneous cause and effect must be acknowledged. Second, there are three parts: explaining the eighteen feelings of mind's close object, how the feeling of which realm takes which mind as its cause, and incidentally showing that all of them are tainted. First, if we divide the mental feeling, the so-called mind closely taking the object means that it is corresponding to the mind, and the difference is that all aspects are closely taking the six objects, that is, each is combined with three natures such as mental pleasure, so there are eighteen kinds, such as the six kinds of mental pleasure's close object. Bodily feeling is not a close object of mind, because the close object of mind depends on the mind with discrimination, while the other depends on the sense object and is without discrimination. The fifteen are focused on the respective definite and unmixed objects, while the three of dharma and mind are focused on both. The happiness of the third dhyana is also not a close object of mind, because it is stable. The Vaibhashikas believe that feeling depends on the mind and is focused on the object, while the Sautrantikas believe that due to the power of feeling, the mind is focused on the object. Second, if desired, all eighteen are present, and if focused on the ground above one's own ground, they will not be complete. If the object of the desire realm's mind's close object is the form realm, since there is no smell or taste, there are twelve. The upper formless realm has no five objects, so it is focused on dharma, which is the close object of the desire realm's mental pleasure, displeasure, and equanimity. In dhyana, in the first and second dhyanas, there are no six kinds of mental displeasure, so there are twelve kinds of close objects, which are also the objects of the desire realm's mind, and are the practitioners. If focused on one's own ground, there are mental pleasure and equanimity focused on form, sound, touch, and dharma, totaling eight. Form

The formless realm is the equanimity of joy and equanimity based on the Dharma. In the latter two dhyanas, there is no joy, and consciousness is not the proximate cause of mind, so there are six types of equanimity. The existence of the object of the six types of proximate cause is also due to being based on desire. The self-ground is the four proximate causes of equanimity based on the four: form, sound, touch, and dharma. The upper formless realm is the object of one proximate cause of equanimity based on the Dharma. When approaching the formless realm of infinite space, there are four types of equanimity based on the four objects of meditation, such as form, which are roughly observed. That also goes to the object of form. When the upper tranquility tends to the formless realm, there is also one based on the Dharma in the approximation, and there is also one in the actual four, which is the only object of the self-ground. Third, all eighteen are attached to the object of mind, and craving increases, so they are with outflows, which is the view of the Vaibhashika school. This is said about happiness, etc., based on attachment that does not turn away from existence, and not all proximate causes of mind need to be with outflows. Second, the reason why others do not need to be explained here. Why are other dependent originations not shown here besides ignorance, name and form, touch, and feeling? Because form, consciousness, and the six sense bases have already been explained when explaining the realms, and actions and existence will be explained in the fourth position, and love and grasping will be explained in the fifth position, so other situations do not need to be explained here. Third, analogy and combination. The occasion of summarizing and explaining dependent origination, afflictions, karma, and base is: Just as seedlings sprout from seeds, three things arise from afflictions: afflictions, karma, and suffering. And just as the ocean where dragons dwell does not dry up, the ocean of rebirth where dragons of afflictions dwell does not dry up. And just as forests, etc., will grow again if they are not uprooted, the rebirth of beings will grow again if the roots of afflictions are not uprooted. And just as trees bear fiery fruits when the season matures, afflictions also bear the fiery fruits of karma, afflictions, and base not just once. Similarly, like the skin of a fruit, for example, plump fruits with skin, if they are separated from the skin that can grow, they will not grow.
