Therefore, calculating with thirty of their own days and nights as one month, and twelve months as one year, their lifespan is five hundred years. The upper Three Realms and so on, both days and nights and years are doubled, that is, taking one hundred human years as a day and night, those who can live for a thousand years are the Three Realms. Taking one thousand six hundred human years as one day and night, those who can live for sixteen thousand years are between the Paranirmitavasavartin. The initial Four Great Kings are nine million years, the second is thirty-six million years, and so on. Above the Three Realms, there are no sun and moon, but due to the seasons, flowers will close, birds will not sing, one will feel sleepy, night will recede, day will advance, and rely on one's own light to illuminate. The bodies and lifespans of the Asuras are said to be similar to the gods of the Three Realms. Taking five hundred human years as one day and night, those who can live for five thousand years are Rahu. Taking six hundred human years as one day and night, those who can live for six thousand years are Neck-garland and Firmament. Taking seven hundred human years as one day and night, those who can live for seven thousand years are Flower-garland Heaven. The lifespan of Sudarshana Heaven is not mentioned. In the Realm of Form, there is no distinction between day and night, and lifespan is measured by one's own body size, and calculated in kalpas. The initial Realm of Form is half a kalpa, and from that above, and so on, it is sufficient to reduce three kalpas to the Cloudless Heaven. In reality, if calculated in intermediate kalpas, the Brahmakayika Heaven is twenty intermediate kalpas, the Brahmapurohita Heaven is forty intermediate kalpas, and so on. In the original text of the Earth Store Sutra, those intermediate kalpas are called kalpas, so the Brahmakayika Heaven and so on can live for one kalpa. The lifespans of the Formless Realms are calculated in thousands of kalpas, exceeding twenty thousand kalpas, that is, the Space of Infinite Consciousness is twenty thousand kalpas, the Consciousness of Infinite Consciousness is forty thousand kalpas, the Nothingness is sixty thousand kalpas, and the Neither Perception nor Non-Perception is eighty thousand kalpas. That kalpa also starts from the Abhasvara Heaven, and above that is a great kalpa, below that, below the Brahma Heaven, is half of a great kalpa, and the forty intermediate kalpas called kalpas refer to that. The initial six heavens, such as Sudarshana Heaven, are in order the same as the lifespan of the Desire Realm heavens and the days and nights of Sudarshana Heaven, that is, the lifespan of the Four Great Kings is five hundred years, calculated with one day and night of Sudarshana Heaven, and so on, with their own thirty days and nights as one month, and twelve months as one year, so the lifespans of Sudarshana Heaven and so on are five hundred years, one thousand years, two thousand years, and so on.

It is like the gods who respect the way of calculating. The extremely hot hell can endure half a medium kalpa, while the Avici hell can endure one medium kalpa. The longest-lived animals can live for one medium kalpa, such as Nanda among the eight great dragon kings. The shortest-lived animals have a lifespan of only a moment. Pretas take the first half of the human month as day and the second half as night, counting one month as one day, with a lifespan of five hundred years. The so-called "emptying with sesame seeds" refers to the measure of Magadha, which is the amount of sesame seeds that fills eighty cartloads. From that, one sesame seed is taken out every hundred years of human years, until all the sesame seeds are used up, which is the lifespan of the beings in the water bubble hell. The lifespan of beings in other hells, such as those with bursting bubbles, increases by a factor of twenty, becoming longer and longer. Second, the lifespan of beings with unpleasant sounds is fixed at one thousand years, and unless they die untimely, others will die even if they do not reach their lifespan. Furthermore, what is not mentioned here, as stated in the Treatise on Establishments, is the difference in whether a certain dharma exists in the upper and lower realms, such as hunger and thirst, menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth, which exist in the four continents. The production of semen is for humans. Gods satisfy their desires by exhaling air, and so on. Second, explaining the method of measurement, it is divided into two types: determining the limit of the minute, and accumulating minute things into units of measurement. First, the smallest units of form, name, and time are, in order, the ultimate atom, the smallest part of a letter, and the indivisible instant. Second, it is divided into spatial measurement and time measurement. First, seven times the ultimate atom is a minute atom, and seven minute atoms are one atom. Similarly, increasing by a factor of seven, they are iron water dust, rabbit dust, sheep dust, cow dust, sunlight dust, lice, and barley grains and finger joints produced from lice. In the Treatise on Establishments and the Extensive Play Sutra, the names and calculation methods are different, but in reality, they must all be calculated starting from the smallest ultimate atom. Twenty-four finger joints are one cubit. Four cubits are one bow. Five hundred bows are one krosa, and the distance from a village to a krosa is considered the range of a monastery. Eight krosas are one yojana. Second, regarding time, there is a general explanation.
