Great kalpas have immeasurable numbers counted in days, nights, months, and half-months. The sutra says: Think of that which is attained by many countless eons. Saying it three times refers to the great kalpa. According to the Vaibhashikas, all three countless eons must be spent on the path of accumulation. According to the Mahayana, it is associated with the three: the path of application, the stainless ground, and the pure ground. When the lifespan exceeds eighty thousand years, there is no suffering, and when it is below one hundred years, the five degenerations flourish, so the Buddhas do not appear. That is, the decline of life is the degeneration of life, the decline of enjoyment is the degeneration of time, that is, the fruit's taste, ability, and power become small. The decline of the virtuous aspect of householders is the degeneration of afflictions, the decline of the virtuous aspect of renunciants is the degeneration of views, and the decline of the body is the degeneration of sentient beings. The decline of form, intelligence, health, etc., is like the degeneration of evil. This is also in terms of this kalpa, but it is not certain in others, because some kalpas are longer than eighty, etc. Secondly, solitary Buddhas appear in fields where there are no Buddhas, in both flourishing and declining times. Like the solitary rhinoceros, solitary Buddhas attain the causes of enlightenment, such as the four truths, dependent origination, and the ten virtues, in a hundred great kalpas. Thirdly, the appearance of a wheel-turning king will not be later than when the human lifespan is eighty thousand years. Above that, they will not appear, because they come from immeasurable eons, and below that, merit is insufficient. A wheel-turning king of power appears when the lifespan reaches eighty thousand years, such as Kanishka and others. A wheel-turning king is definitely based in Jambudvipa (Earth). That is, there are four types of wheel jewels: gold, silver, copper, and iron. Their sizes are also said to be four yojanas, three yojanas, two yojanas, and one yojana in circumference. They also rule one Jambudvipa, two continents (south and east), three continents (excluding the north), and four continents, respectively, in descending order. Two wheel-turning kings do not appear in one place at the same time, because they have accumulated unparalleled karma. For example, two Buddhas do not appear in the same world at the same time. Regarding the fact that two Buddhas do not appear simultaneously, the Vaibhashikas say that no more than one Buddha appears in all the worlds, because if one cannot subdue, another should not subdue, and the wisdom, compassion, and power of the Buddhas would become obstructed.

It is said that these are equivalent to the scope of one world. It is said that there are many Buddhas in other eastern regions and so on. The small kingdoms ruled by the golden wheel welcome with gifts, the silver wheel rulers go to other countries themselves, the bronze wheel rulers prepare for battle, and the iron wheel rulers manufacture weapons, so there is no harm to sentient beings who conquer all sides. Furthermore, the Chakravartin possesses perfect equipment, including the wheel jewel, as well as the elephant, horse, jewel, queen, house, and minister, which are the seven precious royal possessions, and the near seven treasures: sword, leather, bedding, garden, house, clothes, and shoes. Great beings with perfect bodies also have thirty-two marks, except for the urna and the crown of the head. Among them, the marks of the Buddha are: each abiding in its own place or dwelling, without being confused, and being distinguished by clarity and completeness. The cause of its arising is: building stupas in places where there were none before, writing scriptures, turning the wheel of Dharma, and so on. Secondly, there are two types of kalpas: declining and flourishing. First, the sentient beings that appeared before were also like embodied deities. Not long after the world was formed, rain fell as thick as the axle of a chariot, and this great earth was filled with water. The wind gathered and condensed the water, so on the ground, the essence or nutrients of the earth, the color of fresh butter, the taste like uncooked honey, and the rich fragrance were formed. The people of the first kalpa did not have distinctions such as male and female, so all were known by the common name "sentient beings." Then, gradually, one sentient being who was greedy for taste licked and ate the essence of the earth, and the light disappeared, and the sun and moon naturally appeared. Because of eating a lot and eating a little, ugliness and beauty appeared. Because of being proud of beauty and despising ugliness, the taste disappeared. Then the earth's grease fragrance appeared like before, but it also disappeared.
