I prostrate. Both meditative stabilizations (snyoms 'jug) have a basis in the desire and form realms, but not in the formless realm. This is because there is no object of negation, and because the meditative stabilization of non-perception is included in the four concentrations (bsam gtan bzhi pa). If one is disgusted with coarse perception and feeling in cessation, then those who abide peacefully in the formless realm would not be disgusted with these. According to those Yogācārins who consider the ālaya-vijñāna (kun gzhi rnam shes) as the object of negation, the meditative stabilization of cessation also manifests in the formless realm. For those who have not previously attained cessation, the first manifestation is among humans, because it is difficult to generate due to unfamiliarity, and because humans are intelligent. It is said that those who have attained it and then declined later manifest it even in the form realm. The Kashmiris say that it is first among humans because there are teachers, expounders, and the power of practice. The Buddha said it is not in the formless realm because there is no basis. It is said that the meditative stabilization of non-perception also arises first in the form realm, because one is familiar with samsara from beginningless time. If one declines from the meditative stabilization of cessation, there would be the fault of saying that even noble ones decline. The Vaibhāṣikas hold this view. The Sautrāntikas say that there is no decline from the noble path, and the meaning of the sutra is that there is decline from the mind of the peak of existence and the meditative stabilization of cessation. This is what they believe. The subsequent mind is: The Vaibhāṣikas believe that the past is substantially existent, and therefore it arises from that. The Sautrāntikas say that it arises from the seed of mind in the body. According to the first view, if the past mind exists in that continuum, then the concomitants are not prevented, and if it does not exist, then it is not substantially established. For the second view, if the seed is mind, then there would be the fault that the concomitants are not prevented, and if it is not mind, then the material would become the proximate cause of mind, and there would be faults, etc. There is no difference between the two meditative stabilizations, because mind and mental factors are the nature of preventing the body. If this is said, the Sutra and Vaibhāṣika schools say that there is no difference merely in this respect, but there are differences in intention, the way of first arising, realm, ground, person, and the experience and change of the result. According to the Yogācāra school, the difference is in preventing the six consciousnesses with their retinue and the seven consciousnesses with their retinue. Seventh, the life force (srog) is called life (tshe) in the three realms, which is the warmth of the body and whatever is the basis of consciousness. Because warmth is not seen in the absence of life. This is also imputed on the basis of merely existing in a similar continuum. Whichever of life and merit is exhausted
