If I want to abandon myself from the terrifying world, what need is there to mention an ordinary fire pit? Even if all the suffering of sentient beings in hell were to befall me, if I were to seek the Dharma, what need is there to associate with the suffering of fire? As it is said, when the fourth ground is attained, seeking the Dharma with such strong intention at this time also leads to distraction and arrogance of mind. Therefore, the essence of the Dharma is to mainly practice the Dharma related to Bodhi. Because the arrogance of "I diligently seek the Dharma" is eliminated, it is a person who has abandoned arrogance towards the Dharma. A person who abides in the fifth ground is called a person without arrogance of different lineages. At that time, because of obtaining the ten pure mental equanimities, he understands the lineages of the Buddhas of the three times—past, present, and future—as well as the Dharma of the Tathagatas of the three times, and the lineages and their Dharma of the Bodhisattvas abiding in the fifth ground, without any difference in the nature of purity. Therefore, he is a person without arrogance of lineage differences. The ten pure mental equanimities are: As explained in the fifth chapter of the Ten Grounds Sutra: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, the Bodhisattva who has completely perfected the path of the ground on the fourth ground of the Bodhisattva enters from the fifth ground of the Bodhisattva, and enters into purity with the ten mental equanimities. What are the ten? They are as follows: the purity of the mental equanimity of the Dharma of the past Buddhas, similarly, the Dharma of the future Buddhas, the Dharma of the Buddhas appearing in the present, the equanimity of the purity of the mental equanimity of ethics, the equanimity of the purity of the mental equanimity of the mind, the equanimity of the purity of the mental equanimity by eliminating views, hesitation, and doubt, similarly, the mental equanimity by knowing the path and the non-path, the mental equanimity by knowing to diligently abandon, the mental equanimity by practicing the Dharmas related to Bodhi from higher to higher, and the mental equanimity of completely maturing sentient beings. At the end of these four, the equanimity of purity is added, thus ten are spoken of. Its meaning is that the past Buddhas and others purify the Dharma of the Buddhas, similarly, the Bodhisattvas who have attained the fifth ground also become like us.

Like the vast teachings of the three trainings, etc., it will not be long before those teachings become pure, and one obtains such a thought. Being on the sixth ground means being a person without the pride of clinging to the difference between pervasive afflictions and pure liberation. Because when one is on that ground, one obtains the ten dharmata equalities, thereby realizing emptiness, which arises interdependently. Regarding emptiness, due to the cause of ignorance, actions and so forth are placed on the black side, and the cessation of ignorance and so forth are placed on the white side. One realizes that there is no difference between the two, and that everything is unborn, becoming of one taste in the nature of emptiness. Therefore, there is no pride or clinging to the difference between pervasive and pure. Among them, it is said that the sixth ground is entered through the ten dharmata equalities, as follows: all dharmas are equal in being without characteristics, and equal in being without essence. Similarly, all dharmas are unborn, unarisen, peaceful, primordially pure, without elaboration, without acceptance or rejection, equal to illusion, dreams, cataracts, sounds, images, water moons, reflections, and emanations, and equal to being neither existent nor nonexistent. So it is said. Being on the seventh ground means being a person who has obtained the wisdom to practice in an instant the cause that produces all the Buddha's teachings, the dharmas that correspond to the aspects of enlightenment. The sutra says: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, thus the bodhisattva dwells on this long-gone bodhisattva ground, and the bodhisattva who dwells on this ground will thus perfect the ten perfections, and the four objects of collection will also be perfected. The four establishments of mindfulness and the thirty-seven aspects of enlightenment, and the three doors of liberation, in short, all the dharmas of the limbs of enlightenment will be perfected in an instant." As it is said. The bodhisattva who dwells on the eighth ground is one who dwells in equanimity and purifies the fields. Because one dwells in the spontaneously accomplished samadhi that does not turn back in any way, one dwells in effortless equanimity and for the sake of completely purifying the Buddha fields.
