Making the assembly of the four immeasurables complete is the fruit of being free or sovereign. Bodhisattvas who possess the four immeasurables cause beings who have not entered this teaching to enter the teaching, and for those who have entered, they gradually ripen them further and further. This is the fruit of a man's strength through diligence, or the fruit of a man's actions. Having become accustomed to it in this life, in all future lives one will never be separated from the realm of Brahma, this is the result of a similar cause. Being separated from the four opposing factors of the four abodes of Brahma, such as hatred, is the fruit of separation. The sign that the practice of the four abodes of Brahma has become perfect is: the antidote to hatred and so on, such as love, etc., without having to deliberately meditate, it abides naturally, or even if there is no precaution, the cause of arousing hatred and so on, when unpleasant conditions manifest, love and so on will not diminish, this is the sign and characteristic that the practice of the four abodes of Brahma has become perfect and is separated from opposing factors. If this is taught as an aside to the fruit, it belongs to the scope of that section; if it is separated separately, it is made the fifth sign of practicing the immeasurable, and divided into seven sections. Fifth, explaining the opposing factors: The fault of a Bodhisattva not possessing the four immeasurables is: thinking that if sentient beings do not encounter happiness, they should be joined with suffering, therefore, thinking of doing harm such as killing and beating, this is the opposing factor of love; physically doing various harms such as beating, this is the opposing factor of compassion, which desires to be separated from suffering; seeing sentient beings possessing happiness, with a mind of jealousy, being displeased and not liking them, this is the opposing factor of joy; seeing sentient beings experiencing suffering, such as enemies, one generates hatred; seeing sentient beings experiencing happiness, such as friends, one generates desire and attachment, this is the opposing factor of equanimity. Thus, if one possesses the opposing factors of the four immeasurables, one will experience many faults of various sufferings that harm body and mind. How do many faults arise? Due to afflictions such as hatred and harm, one commits sins such as killing, causing oneself to be killed and imprisoned in this life, and in future

Therefore, (breaking vows) leads to suffering in hell and other realms in the future, being destroyed by pain. These afflictions destroy sentient beings by harming others' lives, wealth, wives, etc., and once one falls into this state, one will regress from the pure precepts previously taken, thus destroying the precepts as well. In this way, a person who has broken vows will think: I have lost the path praised by the noble ones, the path to higher realms, and have entered the path to lower realms guided by evil people, I am truly self-destructive! He will be filled with sorrow or regret, and his heart will be depressed and despondent. For a person who has broken vows, former patrons will also think that this person is doing evil and is not an object of charity, so they will not give anything. Similarly, others will not respect him and will not regard him as a place of offering, so he will become deficient in clothing, food, lodging, and other necessities. When he was previously upholding the precepts, gods and others would protect him, but now he is no longer a worthy vessel, so he is no longer protected. Similarly, the teacher will also rebuke this unqualified monk in various ways in the Vinaya and other scriptures, saying that he is a monk who has regressed from the Dharma of good conduct, whose behavior is like a donkey, and who is like a corpse. A person who has broken vows will also be condemned and disputed by those who practice celibacy because his behavior does not conform to the norms of celibates, and may even be punished, expelled, and so on. The bad name that so-and-so has broken vows and committed such-and-such evil deeds will spread in all directions. A person who has broken vows will not only suffer many pains in this life, but will also be born in hell and other unfavorable places in the next life. In addition, he will also lose the merits of listening to the Dharma, precepts, four immeasurables, etc., that he had previously obtained, and he will not be able to obtain the merits that he has not yet obtained, so he will suffer unbearable great pain from losing both what he has obtained and what he has not obtained.

These are the faults of the increase of adverse afflictions due to the lack of antidotes such as loving-kindness. Sixth is the merit: As just mentioned, all these faults never occur to those who properly abide in the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness. Those who possess the four immeasurables, by the power of wisdom, are not stained by afflictions such as attachment, therefore they are not afflicted. However, out of compassion, they do not completely abandon samsara for the sake of other beings, but take birth in samsara and ripen beings. For example, the sons of the Buddhas benefit and bring happiness to all beings with the mind of the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness. This kind of thing does not exist in all ordinary beings, and even parents, for their virtuous only son who is suffering and poor, cannot generate such loving-kindness as that of a Bodhisattva. Second, the detailed explanation of compassion has nine aspects. First, the object of compassion is ten types: For sentient beings in the desire realm who are intensely burning with desire for the five desirable qualities, Bodhisattvas think: Alas! These sentient beings are insatiable, the fire of desire is blazing intensely, and they are controlled by it, thus generating intense compassion. Similarly, compassion also arises for those who have embarked on virtuous deeds but have been obstructed by their enemy, the demon, and have given up performing virtuous deeds. Intense compassion arises when focusing on sentient beings who are born in the three lower realms and experience unbearable feelings, and even those in higher realms who are oppressed by suffering such as birth, old age, sickness, and death. Compassion arises for sentient beings who engage in evil deeds, such as butchers, hunters, and thieves, who are obscured by the darkness of ignorance, not knowing that the cause of suffering is the misconduct of body, speech, and mind, such as killing, and that its result is the suffering of hell and so on. Compassion arises for those who have no faith in the path of liberation, those individuals who have cut off their lineage, because they wander in endless samsara and are always engaged in difficult paths. For those non-Buddhists who are outside of this teaching, who have wrong views such as the belief in self and what belongs to self,
