is. The object of focus is the four sentient beings, and the suchness of the Mahayana Dharma, focusing on emptiness, that is, emptiness of both the grasper and the grasped, and entering into it. The objectless love and so on, in this regard, there are four kinds of differences in meaning, that is, because of focusing on the suchness of sentient beings and all dharmas, it is called objectless love. This is because it does not focus on self and dharma, or does not focus on outside and inside. When the tolerance of non-arising dharma is obtained on the eighth ground, because of obtaining the cessation of conceptualization and effort, the seeds of the four immeasurables grow to perfection, and without effort and discrimination, it is naturally accomplished, so it becomes an extremely pure nature, therefore it is established as objectless love and so on. The actions of the body and the actions of speech of love, although both are born from the motivation of love, but because they belong to the form aggregate, therefore there is no discrimination about them, so they are established as objectless love. And, because the afflictions such as greed and hatred are exhausted, therefore the love of the noble ones is called objectless, because for afflictions and so on, it is called the object of the mind, which refers to especially focusing on the object and clinging to it as solid, as the sutra also says: "Because of abandoning the knots of the mind, the object is cut off." Thus, because there is no such object, therefore love and so on are objectless. Thus, through these four reasons, love is objectless. Third, classification: The four of love and so on, those with the distinction of later decline or reduction are called wavering; those with the distinction of abiding and special are called unwavering, that is, not declining; obtaining the four immeasurable samadhis, but being attached to that samadhi, clinging to it as satisfaction by tasting the flavor, not seeking higher qualities, this is with afflictions; not tasting the flavor and not making the clinging of satisfaction are called immeasurable without afflictions, thus among the four classifications, the four immeasurables of the Bodhisattvas are abiding in unwavering, away from tasting the flavor and the clinging of satisfaction, the two of wavering and with afflictions are not. In addition, in the classification of the immeasurable mind, the four immeasurables that are not the nature of equanimity and rely on the mind of the desire realm are

Small also. The realms of form and formless are called equipoise. Among them, the first dhyana has three abodes: Brahma-pāriṣadya, Brahma-purohita or Brahma-before, and Mahābrahmā. The second dhyana has three, such as Parīttābha. The third dhyana has three, such as Parīttaśubha. The fourth dhyana has three, such as Anabhraka, and five pure abodes such as Avṛha, totaling eight. Among them, the four immeasurables of Brahma-pāriṣadya are small, the four of Brahma-purohita are medium, and the four immeasurables of Mahābrahmā are large. Thus, on the ground of equipoise, the four immeasurables are divided into three: small, medium, and large, of which small and medium are both grouped into small, and large is divided into large and two. Furthermore, "inferior ground" means that the lower ground is inferior, and the immeasurable of the higher continuum is superior. Meditating on the four immeasurables of the ground of adhimukti-caryā is inferior and small, the first dhyana is superior and large, those of the first dhyana are inferior, and those four of the second dhyana are superior, thus establishing size in relation to ground and ground. "Inferior intention" means that because one does not act for the benefit of others, the four immeasurables of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas are small. From the first bhūmi to the seventh bhūmi, because of the effort of conceptual thought and the accompaniment of pride, it is small. Thus, that which is not equipoise, and the two of small and medium in equipoise, the inferior lower ground, the one with inferior intention, and whatever is accompanied by pride, all of these are small because of inferiority. Other than that, the large at the time of equipoise, the higher and higher ground that is not inferior, the bodhisattvas and tathāgatas with non-inferior intention, and the three pure grounds such as the eighth bhūmi, the four immeasurables of those who do not have the effort of conceptual thought and do not have pride should be known as superior or large. The fourth is the result. In general, the result of meditating on the four immeasurables is to be born in the form realm, but the wise bodhisattvas who constantly abide in the Brahma-vihāras such as loving-kindness, whose minds are extremely workable and who possess inconceivable samādhi, so that they are constantly born in whatever realm they desire for the benefit of sentient beings, is the result of vipāka. Bodhisattvas, by that immeasurable meditation, can increase merit and wisdom.
