Chapter Eighteen: Immeasurable Offerings Chapter Eighteen: Immeasurable Offerings Third, in this chapter on Immeasurable Offerings, there are four concluding sections on offering to the Buddha, relying on virtuous friends, and meditating on the four immeasurables. The first section explains the nature of offerings, presented in seven verses beginning with 'excellent and with mind.' With a mind of utmost pure intention, for the sake of perfecting the two accumulations. To the Buddhas in the Buddha-fields, with offerings such as Dharma robes, alms bowls, umbrellas, victory banners, flowers, etc., also including respect and listening to the Dharma. In short, with various objects of offering. How is it done? When the emanation body of the supreme Buddha appears in the world, one makes offerings directly to the Buddha. When the Buddha does not reside in the world, one focuses on the Tathagatas in one's mind, placing images, paintings, stupas, etc., in front and making offerings. These are the two types of offerings: direct and indirect. May I and all sentient beings become meaningful through encountering the Buddha appearing in the world and making offerings, pleasing him, and being endowed with aspirations. And not fixating on the characteristics of the three: the Buddha, the offerer (myself), and the objects of offering. This is the complete offering to the Buddha. By making manifest the Buddhas of the ten directions and making immeasurable offerings, may it always be an offering for the sake of perfecting the two accumulations of myself and all sentient beings. If, in the ultimate sense, one makes offerings without fixating on the three circles of offering, it is called a complete and proper offering. Among the distinctions of offerings, making limitless sentient beings fully ripened is one aspect of offering to the Buddha. Benefiting sentient beings is the supreme offering that pleases the Tathagatas. Furthermore, generating the thought of offering to the Buddha in the minds of sentient beings, and engaging them in the act of offering, etc., is primarily teaching the Dharma to ripen them, and dedicating that offering as one that pleases the Tathagatas. Also, material

Offering from the door (ྒོ་) includes offering with various material substances such as Dharma robes and flowers, and offering from the heart without relying on material substances, which is another category of two types. If we distinguish the offering of the heart, there are nine types from faith to suchness. The first is faith, which is when the mind focuses on the Buddha and generates joy, believing that all offerings of the world, both possessed and unpossessed, and beyond the world, are offered. Although this is offering from the heart, in this context, among the three mentioned: faith, thought, and power, the first is the faith that arises in the meaning of the Mahayana sutra, which teaches the Dharma of offering to the Tathagata, and this is also an offering of the heart. Thought includes: tasting, rejoicing, delighting, being insatiable, being vast, joyful, benefiting, being without affliction, and nine kinds of virtuous thoughts. These are also offerings of the heart. That is, remembering one's previous offerings and tasting the present offering as good, rejoicing in the offerings of others, being delighted in the offerings made by oneself and others in the future, and being insatiable because the objects of offering, the recipients of offering, and the time are not short-lived but immeasurable. The vast thought of wanting to make offerings continuously until sitting under the Bodhi tree without time limit, and loving and rejoicing all sentient beings, the field to be ripened by offerings, and wishing to benefit all sentient beings with offerings, being without attachment and pride, and not desiring the fruits of contamination, therefore being without affliction, and dedicating this offering to all sentient beings so that they may attain the fruit of unsurpassed Bodhi, this is virtuous thought. The third, power, is offering to the Tathagatas etc. by relying on the samadhi of the treasury of space etc., and this is also offering from the heart. Aspiration is to generate the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi, and to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others wherever one is born, and to make the aspiration that the Tathagatas etc. are offered in immeasurable ways, may I become an offerer, this is also offering from the heart. This is also called reliance. Removing the suffering of sentient beings.
