If one constantly perseveres in virtue, one can achieve the samadhi of equanimity, therefore, after patience, diligence is explained. If one possesses the samadhi of equanimity, wisdom that correctly knows the truths of the noble ones will arise, therefore, after diligence, meditation is explained. Thus, meditation is the cause, and the wisdom that sees the truth is the result, therefore, at the end of everything, wisdom is explained. These are explained according to the order of arising in the manner of cause and effect. Moreover, because the latter is inferior to the former, and the former is superior to the latter, the inferior is stated first and the superior is stated later. Although there are those who give charity in the world, it is rarer to restrain the misdeeds of the three doors, therefore charity is inferior and discipline is superior. Similarly, even if misdeeds are restrained, it is more difficult to endure harm from others. Even if one can endure, it is more difficult to constantly persevere in virtuous Dharma. Even if one possesses various kinds of diligence, it is rarer to tame the mind with samadhi. Even if one achieves the samadhi of the form realm, wisdom that sees the truth is more difficult and rare. What is easy has more afflictions, and what is difficult has fewer afflictions and greater qualities in comparison to that, therefore, the order from charity to wisdom is established in this way. Moreover, because of grossness and subtlety, the grosser ones are shown first and the subtler ones are shown later. The grosser ones are easier to enter and practice, while the subtler ones are the opposite in comparison to the grosser ones. Charity can be entered into by kings and ministers, etc., even down to servants and outcastes, so it is easy to understand and the gross is easy to do. Therefore, discipline, therefore, patience, and so on up to wisdom, become increasingly subtle, therefore, from charity to wisdom, the latter is inherently subtler than the former, and what is easy to practice and easy to destroy is gross. The subtle aspects that are the opposite of this are shown in this order. Fourth, the individual definitions of the six perfections are: Why is it called charity? It is called charity from the sound of dāna (藏文:དཱ་ན།,梵文天城体:दान,梵文罗马拟音:dāna,汉语字面意思:布施), dā (藏文:དཱ།,梵文天城体:दा,梵文罗马拟音:dā,汉语字面意思:给予) means poverty and abandonment. What abandons poverty is called charity.

So, the giving of wealth enables the recipient to abandon poverty in this life, and the giver will certainly not suffer poverty in other lifetimes, obtaining wealth, thus it is for abandoning poverty. Similarly, the Sanskrit word for discipline is "śīla" (梵文天城体:शील,梵文罗马拟音:śīla,汉语字面意思:discipline), where "śī" means coolness and "la" means obtaining or receiving. The so-called obtaining coolness means that if one possesses discipline, in this life there will be no suffering from the heat of various faults such as the king's punishment arising from attachment to worldly things, and in the future, one will not be reborn in the lower realms, but will obtain the happiness of gods and humans, and ultimately obtain the coolness of the happiness of nirvana. Patience is called "kṣānti" (梵文天城体:क्षान्ति,梵文罗马拟音:kṣānti,汉语字面意思:patience), where "kṣān" means exhaustion and "ti" means doing, so making the anger in one's own continuum exhausted is called patience. The words like "and" are جمع words, which are easy to understand, so I won't go into detail here, and it should be understood in the same way in other situations. Diligence is called "vīrya" (梵文天城体:वीर्य,梵文罗马拟音:vīrya,汉语字面意思:diligence), where "vī" means श्रेष्ठ or पवित्र, and "rya" means combination, so because it is combined with the पवित्र goodness that transcends the world, it is also called श्रेष्ठ combination. Meditation is "dhyāna" (梵文天城体:ध्यान,梵文罗马拟音:dhyāna,汉语字面意思:meditation), which is the same as "ra" with "ya", and means "dhāraṇa" (梵文天城体:धारणा,梵文罗马拟音:dhāraṇa,汉语字面意思:holding), so what is held? It is to hold the mind inwardly on the object of focus and not be distracted outwardly, this is meditation. Wisdom is "prajñā" (梵文天城体:प्रज्ञा,梵文罗马拟音:prajñā,汉语字面意思:wisdom), where "pra" is a word of near transformation, meaning श्रेष्ठ, and if the word "pra" in the name "parama artha" (梵文天城体:परमार्थ,梵文罗马拟音:paramārtha,汉语字面意思:ultimate meaning) is abbreviated, then "pra" is the ultimate meaning, and "jñā" is knowing, so it is said for knowing the ultimate meaning. These explanations are based on the non-common meaning of the abbreviation and addition of letters in the words. It should also be known that the way of explaining the meaning of those Sanskrit words that are directly translated into Tibetan, such as generosity, which are widely known, is also the same. Fifth, how to practice the perfections? It is shown by one verse such as "practice all". How to practice from the perfection of generosity to wisdom? The way to practice or become accustomed to all six perfections, each one by one, is: to practice by dwelling or relying on things, similarly, to practice by relying on attention, and to practice by relying on thought.
