Even if one were to speak untruths out of fear of separation, since Bodhisattvas do not have these causes, it is impossible for them to lie. Similarly, because they possess loving-kindness that wishes to equally benefit all sentient beings, because they are extremely afraid when others experience suffering and wish that suffering would not occur to them, and because they are single-mindedly diligent in subduing the afflictions of sentient beings, as mentioned before, they are far removed from the three forms of verbal misconduct that arise from the unequal mind of attachment and aversion, namely, speaking divisive words, harsh words that wish others harm, and idle talk that increases afflictions. Giving away all possessions and possessing great compassion for others, being highly skilled in the Dharma of dependent origination, how could such a person accept mental afflictions such as greed, malice, and wrong views, which arise from the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance? Since they give away all their possessions to others, they should not be greedy for the possessions of others, and so forth, one should understand by applying this principle in sequence. The purity of patience is when a loving Bodhisattva, when others harm them, or when they endure suffering for the benefit of others, thinks, 'This is the cause of enlightenment, the method for perfecting patience,' and does not generate the perception of the harmer or the suffering, but instead generates the perception of benefit and happiness, and attains joy. What unbearable object should such a Bodhisattva endure, what difficult thing should they endure? Because they have no unbearable perception, it is like a fish entering water, or a wild animal entering fire that has a clean sound of fire, there is nothing unbearable. The purity of diligence is that Bodhisattvas, without the concept of 'other' towards others, realize the equality of self and other, and although they themselves have realized the meaning of the equality of self and other, they constantly cherish other sentient beings more than themselves, focusing on other sentient beings who have not realized it in this way, and because they practice immeasurable hardships for the benefit of sentient beings, they possess great compassion. Thus, practicing great diligence for the benefit of others, they do not feel the slightest difficulty.
