Considering that I have said countless times that one has completely entered nirvana through the Hearer Vehicle, like the emanations of the Buddha and the Hearer Pratyekabuddhas, both of whom appear to enter nirvana through the Hearer Vehicle, this is only because they are considering that the vehicle is the same, and the Bodhisattvas who emanate as Hearers also do not manifest the nirvana of the Hearers, but become Buddhas, and it is the same. The ultimate vehicle is the Great Vehicle alone, and considering that only the Great Vehicle is the only one, and not others, it is said that it is the only one vehicle, and not three. Although a detailed explanation is given in the Great Commentary, it is feared that it will be more difficult to understand if it is too detailed, so the key points are summarized and explained in an easy-to-understand manner. The necessity of teaching the One Vehicle is: to guide some who are uncertain whether they are of the Hearer lineage or the Pratyekabuddha lineage into the Great Vehicle, and others who are uncertain whether they are of the Bodhisattva lineage, even if they enter the Great Vehicle, although they may benefit samsara, they may also cause harm; even if they do not cause harm, they may cause harm; even if it is not necessary, they may cause harm to sentient beings, etc. Seeing the faults of sentient beings, they become weary of samsara and want to enter the nirvana of the Hearers, in order to prevent them from turning back from the Great Vehicle and to properly hold them. The perfect Buddhas teach that it is the One Vehicle to those of uncertain lineage. By teaching in this way, even if one enters the Hearer path, after attaining one's own fruit, one must enter the Great Vehicle, so from the beginning, one should enter the Great Vehicle and not give up, thus preventing them from turning back from the Bodhisattva path. Those who are uncertain whether they are of the Hearer lineage are called Hearer lineage because they have previously practiced the Hearer's conduct, and the other two are the same. There are two types of people who are uncertain whether they are of the Hearer lineage and enter the Great Vehicle to become Buddhas: one is those who have seen the true meaning of their own vehicle, namely the Stream-enterer, Once-returner, and Non-returner; and the other is the ordinary person of faith who has not seen the truth.

Therefore, those who have seen the truth and are either free from or not free from attachment, although they enter the Mahayana, attain the fruit of Buddhahood due to dull faculties and a long time, and are inferior to ordinary beings who enter the Mahayana. If a Shravaka Arya turns his back on existence and does not take birth in existence, having attained the Arya path, and then enters the Mahayana, he will be born in Samsara and must practice for countless three great kalpas to perfect, mature, and purify himself. If those who have attained the path of exhausting existence, how can they be born in Samsara? It is because those who have seen the truth, whether free from or not free from attachment, having attained the Arya path that is the antidote to the three realms of existence, do not manifest the fruit of the Shravakas with that very uncontaminated karma, but transform it with aspiration to be the cause of rebirth in those existences again. The birth that is transformed by reason in an inconceivable way is truly in accordance with reality. Therefore, in Samsara, one is born continuously from one life to another, and enters into the three aspects of perfection, maturation, and purification. The Arya path turns its back on Samsara and is the antidote to exhausting existence, so how can it be the cause of birth in Samsara? It is true that the Arya path alone is not the cause of birth in Samsara, but those who do not return have the afflictions of the upper realms, and those who have entered the stream and those who return once have not exhausted the afflictions of the desire realm that are to be abandoned through meditation, and those who have the afflictions of the two upper realms, through the power of dedicating the Arya path to birth in Samsara, slowly make the afflictions the cause and will be born in Samsara, as it is said in the commentary. Here, having attained the Arya path, the uncontaminated karma is never transformed into contaminated karma, and it is impossible for the uncontaminated to become contaminated, or for virtue to become evil. However, having abandoned the intention of abandoning Samsara with the uncontaminated path and turning oneself towards peaceful Nirvana, now, through the power of fully embracing the aspiration to be born in Samsara, one does not manifest the fruit of the Shravakas, and is endowed with a birth that is transformed in an inconceivable way. It is by the power of the aspiration of that mind that one takes birth, and it is not like the birth of an ordinary person by the power of uncontaminated karma, so it should be understood that one has obtained a birth that is transformed in an inconceivable way. The Buddha intended that the Shravakas are not of a definite lineage.
