And it is shown that even the sentient beings appearing in the six realms do not have life, person, etc. The six external sense bases, such as form and the six objects, are like appearances in a dream. Just as in a dream, one experiences enjoying the forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile sensations, and dharmas of women, men, etc., although they appear, one should know that there are no other external objects. The "two" refers to the mind and mental factors, which are like mirages. Although there is no water in a mirage, it creates the illusion of water for those far away due to its blueness and movement, but when approached, there is nothing there. Similarly, the mind and mental factors cause various phenomena such as pillars, pots, men, women, blue, yellow, white, and red objects to be perceived as "this and that," and one clings to them with conceptualization. However, if one examines these phenomena, due to their multiplicity and impermanence, there is no complete object to cling to. The "two sets of six" refers to the above examples, the image and the eye disease, which are applied to the two sets of six internal and external sense bases. The six internal sense bases are like an image, just as an image appears on the surface of a mirror due to the influence of the form. Similarly, although these six sense bases appear, they are not real, like an image. This is because they appear from the karmic imprints of actions accumulated by the six sense bases of previous lives, which are like the form. The six external sense bases are like an eye disease. "Eye disease" refers to all the appearances of visual distortion caused by conditions. For example, jaundice makes one see a person as yellow, squeezing the eyes makes one see two moons, one's own shadow appears as another creature, one sees hairs floating, and when on a boat, one sees the mountains moving, and so on. However, here it is said to be understood as a shadow. Just as a shadow arises due to an umbrella and the body, the six external sense bases are like a shadow of the six internal sense bases, arising due to their influence. That is, the six internal sense bases, such as the eye, arise from the alaya-consciousness, and from that, the six external sense bases appear as objects. "The three each desire" refers to the Dharma that is taught, the mind abiding in Samadhi, and the three bodies that deliberately take rebirth.

The three similes of echo, moon in water, and emanation should be applied one by one. All the teachings are like echoes: although an echo does not have the nature of sound, it can be heard within the range of hearing, just like all the teachings that are spoken. Or, like the reflection of the moon appearing in clear water, although it appears, it does not actually exist. Because of focusing on one point, without being disturbed by other distracting thoughts, like clear water, no matter what is meditated on, such as the four truths, mindfulness, cessation, etc., the image of the meaning of what is being meditated on will appear clearly. Intentionally taking rebirth is like an emanation appearing from one place to another, but without attachment or hatred. Bodhisattvas, for the benefit of sentient beings, take rebirth passing from one life to another, also without attachment or hatred. Third, completely seeking what is to be known is indicated by one verse, such as "unreal cognition." If the knowable is briefly summarized, it is to examine which dharmas are worldly and which are transcendent. Unreal cognition is: all the conceptualizations of the three realms of grasper and grasped that are not in accordance with attaining the dharmadhatu and non-conceptual wisdom. Unreal, and Not unreal is: from the time of ordinary beings, listening well to the holy Dharma and thinking about it, up to the dharmas of the stage of faith practice below the supreme worldly Dharma, all proper attention. At that time, because there is conceptualization of grasper and grasped, it is unreal; but because it is to realize the dharmadhatu and transcendent wisdom, and is in accordance with it, it is called not unreal because it is like its cause. Non-conceptual refers to the realm of dharmas and the transcendent wisdom that takes it as its object, because these two do not have conceptualizations such as grasper and grasped. Non-conceptual, not non-conceptual, refers to the pure worldly wisdom obtained after obtaining non-conceptual wisdom in equipoise, because it is focused on the non-conceptual wisdom that is focused on the dharmadhatu, so there is no grasper or grasped, or it is obtained after that.
