So, what is this extremely inverted and serious state of worldly ignorance like? Second, to seek completely as if it were an illusion, that is, "like an illusion," etc., is explained in fifteen verses. Although it does not actually exist, there is only the experience of appearance, so all phenomena that appear as the apprehended and the apprehender, although they appear, have no self-nature, like illusions, etc. For example, just as a magician blesses pebbles, etc., with mantras, causing the appearance of horses and elephants, etc., as if they were real, just like the appearance of an illusion, the cause of the appearance of the two apprehensions is the unreal completely imputed, the other-powered nature of the mind and mental factors that appear as the apprehended and the apprehender. The appearance of the illusion of horses and elephants, etc., the body and limbs, colors, etc., appear like real horses and elephants, just as it is, the mistaken apprehension of the two apprehensions is the nature of the completely imputed. Although it does not exist, it is mistakenly apprehended as the apprehended and the apprehender, the nature of the completely imputed is like mistaking a rope for a snake. Just as the pebbles and pieces of wood, etc., blessed by the mantra of illusion, do not contain horses and elephants, etc., similarly, the Dharma-nature in which the two apprehensions do not exist from the beginning is the ultimate truth or reality, that is, the non-inverted self-nature of all phenomena, and is therefore considered to be the perfectly established. Just as the substance of illusion, through the power of mantra, causes horses and elephants, etc., to become the object of focus, similarly, everything that appears as the two apprehensions is considered to be conventional truth. When the illusion of the illusion mantra is absent, the appearance of horses and elephants, etc., then the pebbles and pieces of wood, etc., that appear as the cause of that and that appear clearly, just as it is, when the habits of the apprehended and the apprehender are abandoned, and the place of the Alaya-consciousness changes, just as there is no appearance of horses and elephants, when the two apprehensions do not appear, the Suchness of the perfectly established is focused on by the wisdom of equipoise. From the subsequent wisdom after that, just like seeing pebbles and pieces of wood with one's own eyes, the other-powered nature of the unreal completely imputed, which is the cause of the appearance of the two apprehensions, is focused on, thereby realizing the three realms as mind-only.

If. Just as worldly people who are not deluded by the substances and mantras of illusion do not see illusory horses, cattle, etc., but know that their cause is only pebbles and pieces of wood, and use them as they wish without being deluded. Similarly, those who have attained the path of antidote to delusion and diligently uphold vows, those who are not deluded, the deluded appearances of dualistic grasping are transformed elsewhere, and they freely enjoy the pure other-dependence, which means that after seeing something like an illusion, they do not develop attachment or fear, etc., and freely enjoy it. The appearance of illusory horses, cattle, etc., is merely due to causes such as pebbles and pieces of wood, although they exist on them. However, the self-nature of horses, cattle, etc., does not exist on them at all. Therefore, for illusions, dreams, etc., there is only appearance, so it cannot be said that they do not exist. It should be said that they do not exist as they appear, therefore it cannot be said that they exist either. If one thinks that the two, existence and non-existence, are neither is nor is not, and that such a dharma cannot exist, then one must admit one of them in any case. For the illusory appearance, the mere appearance is not non-existence, because if it did not exist, it would not appear as horses, cattle, etc., and it could not be established as false, because there is no basis. The appearance and its essence do not exist, then it will never exist, and if it did exist, it would not be established as false, like real horses and cattle. Therefore, for the appearances of illusions, etc., the two, existence and non-existence, are spoken of as being undifferentiated or non-contradictory on the same basis, that is, the union of appearance and emptiness. Similarly, only the appearance of duality exists in other-dependence, but its essence, established as two as it appears, does not exist. Thus, for external forms, sounds, etc., it should be said that there is only appearance, and that being established as it appears does not exist. Why? Because for it, the mere appearance there is not non-existence, and the meaning as it appears, being established as form, etc., does not exist, and that will never be established as existence, like the appearance of two moons. Therefore, for forms, etc., on them, without falling into either side of the two, existence and non-existence, just mentioned, the aggregation of the two is undifferentiated, and it is also spoken of like the metaphor of illusion. Thus, existence and non-existence are undifferentiated, there is only appearance, but it is shown that it does not exist as it appears, this is the Middle Way, clinging to the imagined as existent.
