The state of is called meditation. Since it is free from dullness and agitation, and there is no need to rely on the three signs, meditation transforms into an effortless state, thereby attaining compassion. Twelfth, contemplating the nature of the two paths, as indicated by "That is the nature of the two paths," this meditation is the nature of the two paths of tranquility and insight. Relying on undistracted tranquility, through insight that skillfully distinguishes dharmas, one realizes the nature of all things as they are. Thirteenth, contemplating the benefits or merits, as indicated by "two kinds of benefits," by means of contemplation that eliminates evil destinies and cuts off wrong views, two kinds of excellent merits are established. There are also two kinds of evil destinies: the evil destinies of the body are killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and other non-virtuous deeds. The evil destinies of the mind are the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance, which cause the mind to waver towards the causes of non-virtuous deeds. If contemplation can eliminate evil destinies, it is contemplating the selflessness of all dharmas, and by understanding this, evil destinies are eliminated. By understanding the selflessness of persons, one can cut off the five wrong views, including the view of the aggregates as self, the extreme view, the wrong view, the view of holding views as supreme, and the view of holding vows and observances as supreme. Fourteenth, contemplating properly receiving the instructions and following them, as indicated by "receiving," those who abide in the Mahayana lineage and generate the mind of enlightenment, after obtaining the Dharma stream samadhi on the ground of practice with aspiration, receive and hold the samadhi instructions for attaining the first ground from the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, which is called contemplating proper reception. Fifteenth, contemplating application, as indicated by "the practitioner of application," the fruit of receiving instructions, there are five applications used for the path. First, the application of repeatedly contemplating numbers: contemplating the number of names, words, letters, and verses, etc., of the samadhi's sphere of activity that one has received, such as the teachings of the twelve divisions of scripture, including the Sutra Pitaka. Second, the application of contemplating the two states of abiding or entering: that is, the way in which these expressible elements abide,

The so-called "letter" is the root or basis of all names and terms, that is, the fifty Ali Kali. Therefore, one must realize that letters are finite. But names and sentences are infinite, just as there are extremely many names and sentences in treatises such as the Hundred Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, there are tens of thousands of sutras, so one must realize that they are infinite, or dwell in infinity. Third, the combination of universal cognition and near cognition: no matter who or with what mind, for a name like "vase", and its meaning, such as a bulging belly, a container for holding water, etc., linking the name with the meaning, teaching "this name is this, the meaning is this", like receiving teachings, recognizing names and meanings without reversing them, that is, relying on the sound general appearance of the name, the self-appearance of the meaning appears in consciousness, clinging to the self-appearance of the meaning, understanding the meaning from the name, this is the universal cognition of meaning; when seeing the self-appearance of the meaning, naming the general appearance of the meaning with a name, recognizing "this name is this", this is the universal cognition of the name. Fourth, the combination with sequential near cognition: in the world, being accustomed to naming various things such as vases, felt, people, and horses, when expressing them in the order of names without reversing them, before attachment arises to a certain thing, that name will first appear in the mind, and then the meaning is understood from the name. These four combinations of recognizing numbers, etc., are the methods of listening to the Dharma on the path of accumulation, thereby obtaining the object of the Dharma. The combination of thorough cognition is in the stage of the path of preparation, etc. This has eleven categories, and recognizing these categories is called the combination of thorough cognition. What are these eleven categories? There are four in the path of preparation, one in the path of seeing, two from the perspective of what is to be recognized, two from the perspective of superior and inferior, and two from the difference of subsequent attainment, a total of six. The four of the path of preparation are: in the heat position, names and meanings are not related in essence, but only through the fabrication of consciousness, names are established as meanings, and meanings are established as names, recognizing that these are only the establishment of names and meanings, this is called thorough cognition of the sudden occurrence of names and meanings. In the peak position, the dharmas that appear as the grasper and the grasped, although they are not the essence of the grasper and the grasped, appear as the two graspers due to the influence of mind and mental factors, etc.
