Therefore, by thoroughly determining or clearly stipulating that only this extent will not lead to downfall, this itself is discipline. It is shown above that the object to be focused on is the Dharma of the Vinaya Pitaka. Seeking the object of focus, the object of focus is Dharma, etc., there are three verses in total. The so-called "object of focus has been obtained" means that the object of focus has manifested. How to seek the Dharma of the object of focus and find it, determine its meaning, and understand its meaning, that is, "this is this." There are also four kinds of objects of focus: those Dharmas of the Mahayana Pitaka, through the three wisdoms of hearing, thinking, and meditation, are the objects of focus. The internal is the aggregates or clinging of one's own continuum, the six internal sense bases. The external is the object of grasping that is not included in one's own continuum, the six external sense bases. What is included by both internal and external are the defiled and purified Dharmas. From that, by the two ways of properly focusing on the external object of grasping and the internal object of clinging, one can obtain the two meanings of not focusing on external and internal objects. When one realizes the suchness of the external, one obtains the external object of focus. When one directly knows the suchness of the internal, one obtains the internal object of focus. Furthermore, at the stage of forbearance, one obtains that there is no object of grasping other than the mind; at the stage of the highest mundane Dharma, one obtains that there is no clinging. How does one obtain the suchness of the two? Because both the grasper and the grasped are not focusable, therefore, when suchness manifests and one obtains the first bhumi, one obtains the objects of focus of both, thereby obtaining the suchness of non-focusability of all Dharmas. It is said that at the stages of heat and peak, because one does not directly obtain Dharmata, it is not said that one has obtained the object of focus. Direct attainment also seems to be manifested in a general way, without any doubt. Although emptiness has no difference, these terms are used when realizing the external, internal, and both objects of focus in relation to the subject of Dharma. The way to obtain the object of focus of Dharma is: through the expression of mind, that is, through intentional discrimination. As it is said in the Sutra Pitaka, the mind is completely clear, that is, one obtains faith, and one holds its meaning as it is, this is the wisdom of hearing.

Focusing on the Dharma with wisdom is called attainment. Whatever Dharma is taught by the Khenpo and Acharya, listen attentively and contemplate its meaning. For example, when it is indicated by words that all these natures of names, words, and letters are merely appearances in the mind, understand and believe it in that way. With the wisdom of contemplation, merely impute things like pots, etc., which arise from the habitual tendencies of mental expression, but the essence of meaning cannot be expressed, so deeply realize that there is no other meaning than one's own conceptualization, and this is the attainment of focus. With the wisdom of meditation, the term "name" refers to the basis of name that distinguishes name and form, which is mind and mental factors. In short, all phenomena are merely appearances in the mind, established by the mind, and controlled by the mind. There is nothing other than that, so it is only mind, and even that mind cannot be found as the two, grasper and grasped. Therefore, abide in the thusness that is empty and luminous, and thus, with the wisdom of meditation, attain the focus of Dharma. Thus, with the three wisdoms of listening, etc., one will be able to attain the focus of the Dharma of the Tripitaka. First, as in listening, the meaning to be expressed is understood in the mind through the gateway of name. Then, through contemplation, certainty is attained regarding that meaning. Then, through meditation, it is experienced. Through these three, one can attain the meaning or focus of the sacred Dharma. Wherever the three focuses on the external, internal, and both are attained, those are completely dependent on the previously mentioned attainment of focus through Dharma. Therefore, if one listens to the Dharma, contemplates its meaning, but does not meditate, there is no method to realize the thusness that is the non-finding of external, internal, and both Dharmas. Third, completely seeking mindfulness is indicated by five verses, including "the three lineages." Thus, after attaining focus, one must also attain samadhi through repeated mindfulness, so it is explained. There are eighteen types of mindfulness for a yogi, including the mindfulness of the three lineages and the mindfulness of action, etc. Among these eighteen, the first, "the three lineages," etc., is a brief indication, and the rest explain its distinctions in detail. Among them, the first, "the three lineages," refers to the three lineages of Shravaka, Pratyekabuddha, and Mahayana. In the Shravaka lineage
