Just as one does not gain merit by eating food for oneself, but rather by teaching the Mahayana Dharma, which is the basis for benefiting other sentient beings, and by generating faith in it oneself, great merit will arise as stated in the sutras. For example, it is more beneficial to speak a single verse of the Mahayana Dharma than to fill endless fields with the seven precious jewels and offer them to the Tathagatas. Similarly, although there are good benefits from teaching the Hinayana Dharma, which is the basis for one's own benefit, one does not obtain the same benefits as from teaching the Mahayana Dharma. The third, concluding verses are: Thus, the Dharma of the Great Noble One, that is, the Mahayana Noble Path, is vast and extensive. If a Bodhisattva with wisdom constantly generates great faith, then vast merit will arise continuously, and that faith will increase more and more up to the tenth Bhumi, and ultimately it will become the nature of immeasurable qualities, the unsurpassed Great Bodhi. From the Ornament for the Mahayana Sutras, the eleventh chapter, which is the chapter on thinking and generating faith or devotion to the Mahayana, is thus explained. Twelfth Chapter: The Chapter on Completely Seeking the Dharma Having explained the chapter on faith in this way, it is not enough to have faith alone. One must completely seek the profound and vast Mahayana Dharma, in which one has faith, through the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating, thereby accumulating much learning and gaining certainty about its meaning. Therefore, this chapter on seeking the Dharma is explained. This chapter has five aspects: the Dharma to be sought, the mental activity by which to seek, the distinctions of completely seeking, the result of seeking the Dharma, and the verses summarizing the meaning. The first aspect is divided into: seeking the Dharma of the spoken word, and seeking the Dharma of the realized meaning. The first aspect is divided into three aspects: the object of focus is the scriptures themselves, completely seeking; and the meaning indicated by them, obtaining the object of focus, completely seeking; and the seeker, mental activity, completely seeking. First, in order to explain what the object of focus is for the three wisdoms, the four verses beginning with "The collections of scriptures, etc." are spoken. Among these, the object of focus is the Buddha's scriptures, the Dharma of the collections of scriptures, which is also called "Vinaya" (Tibetan: བི་ཊཀ་), that is, the collection of scriptures, in which

It is named so because it contains many meanings of knowledge. Just as the large 'bre bo' (a unit of measurement) in the central region also uses this name, because it contains and accommodates many small 'bre' (smaller units of measurement), similarly, here too, it is because this category contains many expressible meanings of knowledge. The divisions of the categories are the Sutra Pitaka, the Vinaya Pitaka, and the Abhidharma Pitaka, or it can also be summarized into two

Improper conduct is prohibited. It is permissible to possess pure requisites for sustaining life, such as bowls and Dharma robes. As an antidote to the severe asceticism of non-Buddhists, such as sleeping in ashes and thorns, being naked, fasting, and the asceticism of dogs and cattle, which causes one's body to become tired and suffer, therefore, all ordained people are also allowed to possess pure requisites for sustaining the body. For monks who possess discipline and merit, it is permissible to enjoy food with a hundred flavors, clothes worth a million, and beautifully decorated houses with many windows. Therefore, even if one possesses good enjoyments, if one is without attachment and pride, then enjoying these is pure. Even if one dwells in holding smelly food and tattered clothes, if one has attachment and pride, then enjoying these is impure. Therefore, in order to abandon impure requisites and enjoy pure requisites, this is an antidote to eliminating the two extremes. The Abhidharma Pitaka is an antidote to the pride of my view. Because one becomes arrogant from hearing a little, and one's behavior does not conform to the precepts, not seeking extensive hearing from a virtuous friend is called the pride of view. Because the Abhidharma accurately determines the general and specific characteristics of the Dharma, hearing these will eliminate various kinds of pride and various views that are perversely attached to views and precepts. Furthermore, from the perspective of training, the higher discipline training is the common complete Pratimoksha discipline, or the Mahayana's vows to refrain from misconduct, accumulate virtuous Dharma, and benefit sentient beings. The higher mind training is the common eight samadhis of the form and formless realms, and the uncommon samadhi of the Bodhisattva's heroic conduct, etc. The higher wisdom training is the common four noble truths, and the uncommon non-conceptual wisdom of the Mahayana. Among them, the Sutra Pitaka teaches all three trainings. The Vinaya Pitaka teaches the two trainings of discipline and samadhi, and one should practice according to what is said in the Vinaya.
