Like a frightened body in the forest, it wanders about in the affairs of the lord. Just as a king, by his own command, freely rules over the land under his dominion. Similarly, like dogs, those in the desire realm are always distracted and disturbed by external sense pleasures, involuntarily wandering under the control of desire. Those in the two upper realms (form and formless realms), fearing being disturbed by its taste, merely gather their consciousness inward and abide in it, not turning their minds to the profound and vast Dharma of the nature of knowledge, thus having a disposition like a retracting turtle. The Hearers (Śrāvakas), who are solely devoted to benefiting themselves, are extremely afraid of the suffering of cyclic existence. In order to be liberated from cyclic existence, they strive very hard for the method of liberation, fearing that even a slight violation of the precepts established by the Tathāgata, the king of Dharma, will obstruct the path to liberation and result in undesirable consequences. Therefore, with fear, they strive to quickly liberate themselves from cyclic existence, their disposition resembling that of servants. The disposition of Bodhisattvas is: Just as a king possesses autonomy over the land due to the accumulation of merit in the past, Bodhisattvas, with the power of wisdom and great compassion, although abiding in cyclic existence, are not defiled by the faults of cyclic existence; although not clinging to the extreme of one-sided peace, they have attained the state of peace, thus having freedom over both cyclic existence and nirvāṇa. For the sake of accomplishing their own benefit and the benefit of others, for the sake of bringing about the ultimate benefit for all sentient beings, they strive to accomplish perfect things. Therefore, from the dispositions of those in the desire realm, the two upper realms, these worldly beings, and the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, these transmundane beings, the disposition of Bodhisattvas is the most supreme. Among the various different dispositions of sentient beings, it should be known that the disposition of Bodhisattvas, who constantly believe in the Great Vehicle, is particularly excellent. In order to know this, one should properly understand the Great Vehicle spoken by the Buddha, which is itself superior to other teachings. Therefore, in this stage of entering through disposition, the steadfast Bodhisattva should constantly and diligently seek faith in the Dharma of the Great Vehicle. Such is the difference in disposition.

Now, examples are given to encourage entering the Mahayana with joy instead of not entering, entering without entering, entering with joy for the sake of generating great merit, and entering through the door of showing three qualities. There are three conclusions in total. First, in the Mahayana path, one needs to endure the hardship of giving up one's head, hands, and so on, and not fearing the suffering of samsara. If one does so, although one can attain the Buddha, whose qualities are extraordinary, it is the realm of practice for a few great individuals. How could ordinary beings like me, who have been reborn as humans, possibly attain it? Do not be discouraged. Because beings are reborn as humans, the basis for attaining enlightenment is superior to that of gods. People attain Buddhahood not just occasionally by a few, but countless people attain Buddhahood. Moreover, it is not just an occasional occurrence, but in every moment, in the infinite worlds of the ten directions, countless Bodhisattvas attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Therefore, do not accept the discouragement of thinking that you cannot attain enlightenment. I am also human, and others are also human. They also gradually learn through faith and practice in the Mahayana path, strengthening their wisdom and compassion, and viewing the suffering of samsara as an illusion. When the power of great compassion, which does not abandon all beings, is perfected, not only will there be no sense of difficulty in the practice of enlightenment, but one will also feel great joy, which no worldly happiness can compare to. By practicing in this way, one attains the great fruit of Buddhahood. Since that is the case, why can't I attain it? Those Bodhisattvas were initially ordinary beings like me, but they became that way after entering the Mahayana Dharma. Second, even just the initial faith in the Mahayana Dharma is a source of immeasurable benefits, let alone practicing it properly. That is because it is the Dharma that teaches benefiting others. For example, just as giving food to other beings increases merit.
