Just as sounds arise in accordance with the source, the gods emit sounds of victory when the Asuras are defeated, and sounds of impermanence arise in the state of heedlessness, so too, the Buddhas, the fully enlightened ones, abide in the realm of immaculate reality, free from conceptual thoughts. Without any deliberate intention or effort to think, "I shall teach this Dharma to this person and that Dharma to that person," various teachings that accord with the individual's thoughts naturally arise. Just as a precious jewel effortlessly radiates its light in all directions, the Buddhas, in their activities for the benefit of sentient beings, do not have any motivation or conceptual thought such as, "I shall do this and I shall do that." Like the jewel, the various activities of body, speech, and mind spontaneously accomplish the purpose of taming beings, and they certainly manifest in that way. Just as the sky is the container for the formation, duration, and destruction of the world, and the activities of sentient beings such as going and staying continuously appear, so too, the Buddhas, although abiding in the immaculate and pure realm of Dharma, without moving from it, continuously perform the deeds of the Buddhas in the ten directions until the end of cyclic existence. Although it is continuous, due to the influence of those to be tamed, the activities of the Buddhas appear to arise and diminish, entering or not entering. Just as in this sky, at all times, there is the arising and ceasing of internal and external phenomena, such as forests and houses being burned, and sentient beings dying, the former existing things disappear, and new internal and external things arise, similarly, even in the immaculate realm, the activities of the Buddhas, such as manifesting form bodies in the world, also appear to newly arise and diminish the former existing things due to the influence of those to be tamed. Sixth, the profound nature of the Buddha's realm. Although there is no difference between before and after, this is explained by sixteen verses, which have three meanings: the profoundness of characteristics, the profoundness of abiding, and the profoundness of activity. The first of these is further divided into four: the characteristic of complete purity, the characteristic of being the supreme self, the characteristic of being an object that cannot be predicted, and the characteristic of complete liberation. These four are explained in sequence, each with one verse. The first is the nature

Therefore, the perfectly pure Suchness is no different from the stage of ordinary beings to Buddhahood, before and after. The emptiness that is naturally luminous never changes its own nature. The Suchness that is free from the stains of all adventitious obscurations is considered to be the Buddha. When there are adventitious stains, it is not called the Buddha-nature. Naturally pure is pure from the beginning, not newly purified, nor is it later defiled by adventitious stains. Therefore, the characteristic of perfect purity is profound. If it is pure and without defilement from the beginning, why can't sentient beings also become Buddhas? If one is a Buddha only when the stains are purified later, then it is not naturally pure from the beginning. Those with little wisdom find it difficult to understand these things. Secondly, when the emptiness that is naturally luminous is completely purified from the self-appearing adventitious stains, since there is no self of person and no self of phenomena, one obtains the nature of things or the nature or essence of the supreme reality. Therefore, the Buddhas, having obtained the nature of extreme purity, the true and unerring Suchness of things, become the nature of the Great Self. The object of clinging to the duality of self is not the self, because it does not exist in things. The Suchness without the two selves, free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, is the unerring reality, and realizing it is the supreme self, called the Great Self. Thirdly, therefore, the Buddha does not exist in the form of the nature of the self of person and phenomena, nor can it be said that Suchness is not the nature beyond elaboration. Because, relying on the mind that depends on duality, one grasps the momentary continuum of the individual as the Buddha in name, and then asks whether the Buddha will come again after Nirvana, or whether the Buddha exists after Nirvana, etc. If one speculates in this way with the two extremes and asks the Buddha, the Buddha is considered not to give any prediction in any way. Because the Buddha is beyond the extremes of existence and non-existence, and there is no way to express it in terms of appearance or non-appearance. If the emanation body appears in the world again
