Due to non-virtuous actions such as killing, one may face punishments from kings in this life and suffer various miseries in the next. Similarly, self-killing and the practice of asceticism like that of dogs and cows cause suffering in both this life and the next. Furthermore, due to not knowing the path to eternal bliss, one abandons entering it. The loving-kindness of a Bodhisattva towards all sentient beings is the loving-kindness that wishes for all to be auspicious and to attain eternal bliss. Thirdly, the distinction of application consists of six verses that ripen beings through the six perfections, and a concluding verse that summarizes the meaning, totaling seven. First, how does generosity ripen sentient beings? It is through the three aspects of giving everything, giving equally, and giving without satisfaction. If a Bodhisattva sees that their own body and possessions can benefit others, they will not withhold giving, not even a little, or not at all; in short, they will give away all that they own. Moreover, this generosity not only benefits by giving the object itself, but more importantly, in this life, the generosity completely fulfills the wishes of the recipient, providing help in this life. And by this cause, guiding the recipient to virtue and ripening them, it provides help in future lives, planting the seed of liberation, thereby establishing them in eternal bliss. Thus, in both temporary and long-term ways, it fully ripens sentient beings. This generosity is also without bias of good or bad, high or low, near or far, but with equanimity towards all beings, it is characterized by equal giving. And one does not feel satisfied by giving some things or by giving for a few years or kalpas. Even if one gives until the end of samsara, one will not be satisfied with the merit of giving. Secondly, discipline is steadfast, which means it is not occasional but constantly guarding discipline until the end of all sentient beings. This is constant discipline; in the translation of the 'Wise Commentary,' it means 'constant.' Due to the power of past habituation, naturally avoiding non-virtue and practicing virtue is natural discipline. Especially, there is no harm to sentient beings, meaning the ten non-virtuous actions are not practiced even in dreams. Perfect discipline is attained on the second ground.

"Extremely Joyful" refers to the first ground where, through the power of realizing the truth, one obtains the Noble One's delight of discipline, naturally abandoning the side of non-virtue, and the discipline of particularly realizing the joy of virtue. "Non-negligence" means that in all conduct, even the slightest disturbance or error of falling into wrongdoing does not occur, which is the discipline of being without error. The supreme one who possesses such five disciplines, from their own position, places other sentient beings in such discipline, and bestows both benefits of this life and the next, or temporary and ultimate benefits. By placing them in discipline in this way, they continuously obtain the desirable ripening results of being born in the realms of gods and humans, and because of the concordant cause of discipline, the qualities of taking discipline in future lives will continuously arise, thus causing others to ripen. Third, patience: When other sentient beings inflict various major and minor harms on the Bodhisattva, even to the point of harming their body and life, the Bodhisattva thinks, "This is the cause for perfecting my patience," and like a virtuous friend, with the mind of regarding those sentient beings as benefiting themselves, even if others inflict extremely intense harm, such as cutting off pieces of flesh and bone from the body, they are still able to endure it, let alone minor harm. Thus, the means of cultivating patience, such as the means just mentioned and individual examination, and moreover, knowing the means of benefiting the harm-doer in the short and long term, thereby ripening them, therefore, by enduring the harm, they cause the harm-doer to take up the right virtue, thereby ripening them. Fourth, diligence: The son of the Victorious One, with the diligence of armor and application, does not turn back from benefiting sentient beings and does not know satisfaction, relying on supreme diligence. In this way of diligence, they can ripen limitless and boundless sentient beings. If they see that those others can generate a moment of beneficial ripening mind, such as the good thought of giving, even for this, even if they need to exert effort for millions of eons, they will not have the slightest weariness. Fifth, meditation: The Bodhisattva who has obtained mastery over the mind or intellect is
