If one realizes that all stages of the path and fruit are without change, one will be liberated from the abyss of bad views of clinging. Secondly, establishing suchness is done through reasoning of selflessness. First, establishing the selflessness of the person: The so-called self of the person, without investigation or analysis, is merely a reversed clinging, and in reality, it is not established. Because neither the view of self, nor the aggregates, nor anything other than them is the self. The nature of the view of the perishable collection or clinging to the self is not the self, because the view of self is a mental dharma, and therefore it is compounded, impermanent, not all-pervasive, and performs the three types of actions: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. The self that is conceived by the non-Buddhists is uncompounded, permanent, pervasive, and characterized by not performing actions, and its characteristics are different from that. The five aggregates, which are the basis of the view of the perishable collection, are also not the characteristics or nature of the self. In the commentary of Blo brtan, it says "evil place," evil refers to the view of the perishable collection, which is the root of all afflictions, approaching it becomes the basis of view, or it is born from the evil karma of afflictions, therefore it is called the evil place, which is the aggregates. In some translations, it says "residing in evil," meaning that the aggregates are the place of afflictions and suffering, so it is said that residing in evil is the aggregates themselves. In any case, the five aggregates are not the self, as mentioned above, because they are impermanent, compounded, non-pervasive, performing actions, and multiple. The self is not born of its own nature, not newly compounded by causes and conditions, not pervasive, not permanent, not performing actions, and its characteristics are different from the belief that it is one. Other than the object-possessor, the view of the perishable collection, and the object, the five aggregates, there is no such thing as the self. Because other than these two, neither direct perception nor inference can find a self that exists separately. Here, refuting the self that is completely conceived by the outsiders also refutes the object of clinging of the innate ego-grasping, because sentient beings cling to the self as one, not many, and that it is one from beginningless time to the end. Such a self, through the three analyses mentioned above, will be understood as merely fabricated.

So it is. If there is no self, why do all sentient beings think there is a self? It is not because there is a self that they think so, but because even though there is no self, they mistakenly believe there is, or due to the power of inverted and confused wisdom, the thought of existence arises. For example, like mistaking a rope for a snake, or seeing a young woman in a dream, and so on. If a self exists, it will be bound to samsara by afflictions, and if that bondage is severed, one should attain liberation. If there is no self, who will be liberated? Therefore, it is unreasonable to strive for the liberation of the self, is it? It is not because a self exists that one strives for liberation. For example, just as when one is frightened by mistaking a rope for a snake, one gains peace of mind by seeing that there is no snake. Although there is no self, due to clinging to a self, one accumulates afflictions and karma, and thus continuously experiences suffering in samsara. Therefore, by realizing the absence of self through correct wisdom, one will attain liberation by ceasing karma and afflictions. Therefore, what is called liberation is merely the exhaustion of error or confused mind in one's own continuum, and it is not that a self exists and attains liberation. If a self exists, self-grasping will never cease. If one does not abandon self-grasping, karma and afflictions will not cease, because due to attachment to the self, one will continuously enter samsara. Second, explaining the absence of self in phenomena. Just as those beings who rely solely on inverted and confused thoughts believe that self and phenomena exist. From the cause of that confusion arises the nature of various sufferings such as birth and aging, and they abide in a continuous state. Even though that is merely abiding in one's own confused thought, one will not realize it, because as will be explained below, due to being covered by a great darkness that does not see the inherent existence of things, one perversely sees what does not exist. Therefore, because one lacks the uncontaminated wisdom that understands that these samsaric things are suffering and confusion, it is called ignorance or non-true knowledge. Clinging in an inverted way, experiencing feelings of pleasure, pain, and equanimity with contaminated knowledge, is indeed the presence of awareness. Therefore, no matter which of the three feelings one experiences, one cannot escape suffering. The feeling of suffering is suffering by nature, and the feeling of pleasure is the suffering of change.
