Therefore, accept it, because joy never diminishes, so there is no sorrow, therefore it is appropriate to practice the path of enlightenment. Seventh, Bodhisattvas are great, unfamiliar friends to all sentient beings, not because they were previously pleased with respect, possessions, and service, or like becoming relatives and pillars in this life, helping through previous familiarity. Rather, because of their inherent compassion for other sentient beings, they naturally engage in the benefit of sentient beings without needing to be urged by others, which is taught as: Just as a teacher makes a student accept and abandon what should and should not be done, like a teacher who urges, the loving-kindness and great compassion of the Bodhisattvas, who always rely on their own continuum, because their own minds are tormented by the suffering of others, even more so than a mother whose son is ill. Therefore, for the matter of eliminating the suffering of other sentient beings and placing them in happiness and virtue, if one is capable and it is near at hand, if one does not engage oneself and needs to be urged by others, it is extremely shameful, because it is inconsistent with the conduct of a Bodhisattva. For example, if a son becomes wealthy and sees his mother is very poor, but does not give even a little, if someone needs to urge, 'Isn't this your mother? Give some food,' then even worldly people would feel ashamed. If urged, and he still does not give even a little, then that person would be considered a villain, which is a very shameful thing. Just as the great compassion of the teacher is like an encourager, if those who rely on it do not engage in accordance with the meaning of compassion, it is extremely shameful. Therefore, Bodhisattvas do not need other sentient beings to urge them, because they themselves have become beings with a state of loving-kindness, so they engage in the benefit of sentient beings without needing to be urged, therefore it is impossible to abandon the benefit of sentient beings, implicitly showing the exhortation to engage in the benefit of sentient beings through the praise of merit. Eighth, the exhortation that Bodhisattvas should exert themselves even more diligently: Even in the world, those who carry heavy burdens must travel a long road.

Just as one must strive to travel quickly to reach a destination, it is difficult to get there if one is too lax. Bodhisattvas, in order to liberate all sentient beings from unsurpassed enlightenment, generate the mind to attain great enlightenment, just as if carrying the great burden of all sentient beings on their heads. As the most supreme of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva must go to the realm of great enlightenment as promised. For this reason, if one does not quickly begin to practice the six perfections, but procrastinates and falls into laziness, it is not appropriate to walk slowly or enter the path. Even the Shravakas strive to cut off the bonds of karma and afflictions for their own sake alone, just as fire arises from quickly rubbing the rubbing wood and rubbing board without interruption, they quickly strive and attain their own fruit of enlightenment in three or seven lifetimes. Bodhisattvas must clear away the bonds of karma and afflictions that exist in the continuum of themselves and all other sentient beings. Now, I and other sentient beings are tightly bound by various kinds of bonds that are divisions of the three obscurations of karma, afflictions, and maturation. Therefore, the Bodhisattva's diligence should be increased a hundredfold from the way the Shravakas practice diligence, which is reasonable. Thus it is said. The explanation of the fifth chapter, the chapter on generating the mind, from the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras is completed. Sixth Chapter: Explanation of the Practice Having generated the mind in this way, one must practice as promised, so the fourth is the explanation of practice. There are three points: generally explaining the two perfect practices, separately explaining the way to practice benefiting others, and summarizing the meaning by explaining the greatness of the practice. First, because it possesses the three great qualities of great place, great activity, and great fruit, it is considered to be the extraordinary practice of the princes. Among these, the great place refers to the fact that practice arises from first generating the mind to liberate all sentient beings from unsurpassed enlightenment, from generating the supreme mind of enlightenment. Therefore, the place of practice is the mind of enlightenment, so it is called the great place. That is the constant undertaking of great responsibility, that is, engaging in the work of benefiting all sentient beings.
