Being seized by the great collection of excellent Bodhicitta, merit, and wisdom, without losing mindfulness and awareness, one should take birth in this and that place for the benefit of sentient beings. Thus, one deliberately thinks and consciously takes birth, and repeatedly dwells in the contemplation of dependent origination, thereby guarding against afflictions and not being tainted. The Sutra says: When one thinks of all dharmas in this way, with great compassion as the guide, one observes the arising and destruction of the world. All of these are due to improper attention, clinging to the self, and creating actions, etc., as extensively explained. The characteristic of the seventh bhumi is: being connected with the one path and being determined as one without characteristics. Among them, the one path is the eighth bhumi. Before reaching that bhumi, the efforts of each Bodhisattva's continuum are different, so the path is not one. After obtaining the eighth bhumi, because non-conceptual wisdom is spontaneously accomplished in equality, there is no grasping of effort and different continuums, so the one path is like all rivers flowing into the great ocean becoming one taste. Being connected with the one path is the seventh bhumi, because the eighth bhumi will be obtained after it. When the seventh bhumi is obtained, the meaning of the sutras and other dharmas is also understood as one taste without characteristics, so it becomes a path that is determined as one without characteristics in all aspects. The Sutra says: 'O son of the Victorious One, just as between a completely afflicted and impure world and an extremely pure world, one cannot arbitrarily cross over without belonging to the power and great strength of aspiration, means, wisdom, and supernormal knowledge. O son of the Victorious One, similarly, between the mixed conduct and the completely pure conduct of a Bodhisattva, one cannot arbitrarily cross over except for aspiration, means, wisdom, and supernormal knowledge, as well as the power of wisdom and great strength.' This is the meaning of the seventh bhumi being connected with the one path. The meaning of being without characteristics and determined as one is: The Sutra says: 'Thus, when abiding in the seventh bhumi, the immeasurable actions of the body arise greatly without characteristics.'

Activities are immeasurable, arising thoroughly from being free of characteristics. Activities of the mind are immeasurable, extremely purified from being free of characteristics, manifested by the tolerance of the dharma of non-arising, arising immeasurably, thus it is said. The characteristics of the eighth ground are: being without characteristics, spontaneously accomplished and without effort or movement, and also purifying the Buddha-field, in this way its characteristics are established. When abiding on the eighth ground, wisdom that is without characteristics and non-conceptual is spontaneously accomplished without effort, and the Buddha-field, the vessel and its contents, is completely purified. In the sutra it says: 'Oh sons of the Victorious One, bodhisattvas who possess such tolerance, immediately upon attaining the immovable ground of the bodhisattva, the profound, difficult to know, unmixed abode of the bodhisattva, free from all characteristics, turned back from all clinging to consciousness, immeasurable, a secluded place that cannot be taken away by all shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, having attained the manifestation of all seclusion.' Oh sons of the Victorious One, it is like this: for example, a bhikshu endowed with miraculous powers, and so on, is extensively explained. Just as one who is absorbed in cessation has no moving thoughts or consciousness, similarly, one is free from all effort and activity of consciousness. And just as a person wakes up from sleep and dreams of being carried away by a great river, and makes great efforts to escape from it, and immediately upon waking up is free from that effort, similarly, one makes great efforts thinking to liberate beings who are carried away by the four rivers of affliction, but upon attaining the eighth ground, one is free from all causes of intentional effort. And just as a boat going to the ocean is intentionally propelled and moves until it reaches the ocean, but once it reaches the ocean, it does not need to be intentionally propelled because of the collection of my wheel, but travels in the circumference of the ocean, similarly, having reached the eighth ground, one enters into the omniscient wisdom without effort. It is said that such a thing cannot be accomplished by previous intentional actions. Thus, by the power of the spontaneously accomplished non-conceptual samadhi, one performs purification of the field and so on without effort. In the sutra it says: Manifest arising
