From beginningless time, due to the habit of clinging to signs, without needing to make special effort, the signs of various things such as pillars and vases naturally exist, that is, they naturally exist in the realm of consciousness. Like this, having realized that both the signs inferred by consciousness and the signs that appear without inference do not exist, a wise person who has the ability to completely destroy all objects aimed at by signs will cut off all bonds and attain supreme enlightenment. The way to destroy the two signs is: first, the signs inferred by consciousness, such as the signs that appear as skeletons, are merely appearances in the mind, and there is no essence of meaning established in that form, so destroy it in that way. Similarly, all things such as vases that naturally exist are merely appearances to the mind and mental factors, and one should recognize that they have no self-nature or own essence, and practice in this way. Regarding this, the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, by destroying the idea of clinging to the aggregates as pure, happy, permanent, and self, and practicing impurity, impermanence, suffering, and the absence of a self of a person, attain the enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Bodhisattvas, by practicing non-attachment to the self-nature of both person and phenomena, destroying it into emptiness, will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. The way to be liberated from the bondage of signs through such practice is: by fully understanding the characteristics of the three natures, abandoning the habitual tendencies of the afflictive obscurations and the obscurations of knowledge that exist in the all-ground consciousness, one will be liberated. The wisdom or primordial awareness that aims at the suchness of all phenomena, the realm of reality, makes manifest the characteristic of the thoroughly established; abandoning the clinging to the duality of grasper and grasped, or the clinging to the two selves of person and phenomena, makes manifest the characteristic of the completely imputed; when the nature of the all-ground consciousness, which is connected with the body or collection of the bad destinies of the afflictive obscurations and the obscurations of knowledge, is truly manifest, then the dependent nature is manifest. Wise Bodhisattvas, having thus manifested the three natures, all the afflictive and knowledge obscurations that exist in the dependent nature of the all-ground consciousness are exhausted, and thus they are liberated from all bonds.

They wish to think so. If the noble Shravakas also have the correct knowledge of destroying the signs of the four inversions, then what is the difference between the correct knowledge of the Bodhisattvas destroying the signs of dualistic grasping? The way in which the Bodhisattva's meditation on the signless is superior to the Shravakas' meditation on the signless is as follows: The Bodhisattva's wisdom that focuses on Suchness does not focus on the signs of difference between Samsara and Nirvana, because the nature of both Samsara and Nirvana, the Dharmadhatu, is originally Nirvana. Therefore, realizing that there is no difference between Samsara as something to be abandoned and Nirvana as something to be attained, and knowing that Samsara itself is Nirvana and that all Dharmas are empty, the Bodhisattva's meditation is superior to the Shravaka's meditation on the signless. As it is said in the Sutra of the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect: "The Dharmadhatu, the realm of Samsara, the realm of Nirvana, the realm of sentient beings, and the realm of all Dharmas are all the same. Why are they the same? Because they are the same in emptiness, therefore they are the same." As it is said in this Sutra. The Shravakas regard the signs of Samsara and the signless Nirvana as different, and they want to abandon Samsara because it is full of suffering such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, and they regard it as a non-peaceful sign. They regard Nirvana as the absence of all suffering and all faults, and they want to realize it as a peaceful state. Thus, when the Bodhisattva meditates on all signs as being non-different in the Dharmadhatu and the meditation is completely accomplished, they directly see the complete accomplishment of the originally existent nature of the two emptinesses, and they also directly realize the meaning of the originally non-existent signs of grasping and fixation. Therefore, when they obtain the correct knowledge of directly realizing existence and non-existence, whatever they think in their mind will be accomplished accordingly. Even if they think that a rain of necessities should fall from the empty sky, a rain of necessities will fall. This is called having mastery or control over conceptual thought. If Samsara itself is naturally Nirvana, why are all sentient beings not originally in Nirvana?
