If I do not know how to cultivate, and the self-nature is one, then when something like a vase does not exist, the name of the vase will also disappear, which is reasonable. Even if the vase is broken, the name still exists. Similarly, when the names of householders, etc., change at the time of ordination, the things themselves do not change. Because there is no name that cannot be used to refer to anything, know that names are only set up for temporary communication, and there is no essential connection between names and things. After understanding this, the designation of essence and characteristics, such as understanding the essence of a vase as a bulging belly with the name "vase," and using words that show the characteristics of a vase, such as "long vase" and "impermanent vase," know that these two are also temporary. In the Commentary on the Intelligent One, it says that setting hard earth and moist water as self-characteristics, and distinguishing all things such as earth and water as impermanent, suffering, contaminated, and uncontaminated, both of these settings are only settings of names and words, and they do not inherently possess such self-nature. This is the designation of essence and characteristics. In any case, for these two types of designation of essence and characteristics, one should also fully investigate that they are only temporary designations. The key here is that names and things are temporarily connected and designated by the mind. If we examine the designated things, then "vase" is not a complete substance, but is composed of parts such as the mouth and belly. If these parts are broken down to the level of atoms and the parts are destroyed, then the characteristics cannot be established. Similarly, for any dharma designated as essence and characteristics, know that it is only a designation of names, and the thing itself has no essence, it is only designated as existing. By investigating in this way, four complete knowledges will arise, that is, because everything is without an object of focus, etc., it is explained through ten verses. In this way, fully investigating the four investigations in the practice of faith, relying on investigation, four complete knowledges will arise on the path of seeing, that is, because these four, name, thing, essence, and characteristics, are all without an object of focus, four wisdoms of knowing as they are will arise, that is, the knowledge of knowing as it is with complete investigation of names, the knowledge of knowing as it is with complete investigation of things or substances, and self-nature or essence.

Completely seeking and possessing, knowing as it is, and especially completely seeking and possessing, knowing as it is. Among them, knowing that all names are without things and empty, without object of focus, is the nature. Similarly, knowing that all things such as vases, the self-nature or self-characteristic of each thing, and the differences of arising and ceasing, etc., are without self-nature and empty, without object of focus, is completely knowing the four types. This is the Bodhisattva who is stable in all ten bhumis, abandoning what is to be abandoned and realizing the meaning of what is to be realized, or accomplishing all benefits for oneself and others. As stated in the commentary, half a verse explains the characteristic of complete knowledge, and the latter half explains it further. Alternatively, because it is liberation from the bonds of karma, it is explained. What binds? It is the support or place of bondage, the characteristic of the vessel world, the appearance of the alaya-consciousness as the object of focus, and the characteristic of enjoyment, that is, the six consciousnesses enjoying the six objects, and the cause or characteristic of seeds, that is, all seeds, the alaya-consciousness. Thus, it is bound by the three causes of characteristics or bondage. What do these bind? As indicated by the demonstrative "in this samsara" or "here," together with the three binders, the eight aggregates of consciousness, and the fifty-one mental factors such as feeling, ideation, and touch, and the support, that is, the six faculties from the eye faculty to the mind faculty, and the physical support, including the body, which is the form aggregate, thus binding the five aggregates. How are they bound? As it is said, "bound together with seeds," it means bound with seeds, that is, the traces or seeds of the characteristics of place and enjoyment are accumulated in the alaya-consciousness, and until they are abandoned, one cannot be liberated and is bound. Thus, after identifying the bondage, the method of liberation from it is explained. First, relying on the practice of listening, thinking, and meditating on the Dharma, the characteristics placed before one's mind, whether it is a corpse or bones, etc., in short, whatever is the object of focus of the mind, and although it is not intentionally focused on and placed before one, sentient beings
