If one thinks so, the reason for that has already been explained above. If it is said that it means seeing that the self-essence of the person (Pudgala, ,,,) exists, then it will harm the three perfect enlightenments. The three perfect enlightenments are the profound manifest perfect enlightenment, the uncommon manifest perfect enlightenment, and the transcendent manifest enlightenment. Among them, understanding the selflessness of phenomena is the first. Understanding the selflessness of the person is the second, because it is uncommon to non-Buddhists. Thus, understanding the two selflessnesses is something that worldly people do not have, so it is called transcendent manifest enlightenment. Alternatively, understanding the absence of complete imputation, the existence of other-dependence in name, and the pacification of perfect reality by nature, these three are applied in order to the profound, the uncommon, and the transcendent manifest enlightenment. In reality, the absence of the two selves cannot be realized by the wisdom of worldly people, but only after the Buddha realizes it, he teaches it to the disciples. However, if the Buddha sees that the self exists, then it is no different from the views of worldly people. The profound, the uncommon, and the transcendent will not change in any way, thus harming the three perfect enlightenments. Another fault of believing in the existence of self-essence is: if the self-essence exists and it is what does seeing and hearing, then if the self wants to see, it should be able to see without any effort such as opening the eyes, or it needs effort to see, etc. Neither of these is reasonable, because there are three faults that will be explained below. For the actions of seeing and so on, the action of that self is not spontaneous without effort, nor is the action the cause of efforts such as opening the eyes to see and turning the ears to listen, because seeing is done by consciousness relying on the senses and objects, but the self does not have the actions of seeing and hearing. After explaining this, the meaning is explained: if the actions of seeing and so on are not done by the self but arise naturally, then the self is not the agent, because it arises naturally without the self doing it. Seeing etc.

Since these actions are occasional, they are impermanent, therefore they have causes, and it is unreasonable for them to be self-arisen without a cause. If self-arisen is without cause, then actions should become permanent, but this has been refuted by direct perception. If actions arise without a cause, then the results that arise without a cause, because they arise without depending on causes, all actions should arise simultaneously, and they should always be constantly performed at all times. Therefore, actions such as seeing are impossible to be self-arisen without effort. The self (Sanskrit: ātman, Devanagari: आत्मन्, Romanization: ātman, literal meaning: self) is also not the cause of seeing and hearing, etc. Why? Is my action permanent, is it the cause of seeing and hearing, etc.? Is my action impermanent, is that the cause? Is the action neither permanent nor impermanent, is that the cause? The first case is unreasonable. If my action is permanent, is it the cause of seeing, etc., then my permanent action, because it always remains the same as before, the cause of seeing, etc. always exists, even before the senses and objects have gathered and the act of seeing with the eyes, etc. has not been done, there should be a seer, but before not seeing and not hearing, etc., there is no act of seeing and hearing, etc., so my permanent action cannot be the cause of seeing, etc. If, as in the second case, my action is impermanent, is it the cause of actions such as seeing, then that action is not permanent, because the previous one disappears, so it is impermanent, therefore the agent self (Sanskrit: ātman, Devanagari: आत्मन्, Romanization: ātman, literal meaning: self) also becomes impermanent, because there are different states of acting and not acting. The third case, where my action is neither permanent nor impermanent, is also completely non-existent, because permanent and impermanent are contradictory, if it is not one, it becomes the other, and there cannot be a third between the two. Here there is a debate about whether the self (Sanskrit: ātman, Devanagari: आत्मन्, Romanization: ātman, literal meaning: self) is permanent or impermanent, but if the debate is about whether my action is permanent or impermanent, it seems clearer. The above is the proof of no-self (Sanskrit: anātman, Devanagari: अनात्मन्, Romanization: anātman, literal meaning: non-self) with reasoning that has direct perception and inference, and next is the proof with scriptural authority, which is said to those of our own school who say there is a self (Sanskrit: ātman, Devanagari: आत्मन्, Romanization: ātman, literal meaning: self), just as the Blessed One said that all dharmas
