Generating the mind [of enlightenment] is said to be through the power of friends, which is called the power of companionship. Generating the mind through the strength of having the lineage of a Bodhisattva is from the power of the cause. In previous lives, generating the mind and practicing the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, and through the power of accumulating the collections of wisdom, generating the mind towards enlightenment in this life is through the power of the roots of virtue. In the past, when the Bhagavan taught the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, like the many beings of gods and humans generating the mind towards unsurpassed enlightenment, and also whoever generates the mind due to hearing the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, that is through the power of hearing. In this life, listening to the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, and generating the mind from the habituation of the virtue of thinking, among these five, the first is unstable and may regress, while the latter four arise as stable. Thus, all five of these are explained as the mind generation taught by others. The ultimate mind generation is taught through seven verses, such as 'having served the Buddhas.' In the stage of aspirational conduct, for one immeasurable great kalpa, having made offerings to the complete Buddhas, listening to the Dharma, contemplating, and meditating, one has served them thoroughly. Through the cause of greatly accumulating the two collections of merit and wisdom, gathered by the six perfections, because the wisdom that does not conceptually differentiate all phenomena into dualistic phenomena such as grasping and not grasping, permanent and impermanent, arises, therefore, such supreme realization is considered the supreme mind generation or the ultimate mind generation. This arises when the first ground is attained, and because of that cause, great joy arises, therefore, the name of that ground is called the Joyful Ground. Why does great joy arise at that time? Because one has found equanimity of mind towards all phenomena such as aggregates, and similarly, towards sentient beings and the benefit of those sentient beings, and towards the Dharmakaya of the supreme Buddhas, one has found equanimity of mind, that is, having found the four equanimities, therefore, the great joy of that Bodhisattva is particularly excellent. How is it that phenomena, self, others, and the Buddhas are equally realized as non-different in the nature of the Dharmadhatu? Because of knowing the nature of phenomena, there is no fear of samsara. And also, one does not conceive the benefit of others as different from one's own benefit.

, and seeing the benefit of sentient beings being accomplished, and realizing that oneself will become the refuge of all sentient beings, and approaching the state of Buddhahood, thus generating great joy. The arising of the true Bodhicitta has six meanings, namely the meaning of arising, the meaning of vastness, the meaning of delighting in it, the meaning that the thought is also pure, the meaning of being proficient in other (qualities), and the meaning of definitely departing (from Samsara). Having briefly explained it in this way, the meanings are explained separately. First, the meaning of arising has four aspects: like the birth of those born from the womb in the world, generating faith in the supreme Mahayana Dharma is like a seed; the supreme Paramita, which is the realization that all dharmas are empty in nature, is born from the mother of Prajnaparamita; the bliss of extreme suppleness arising from one-pointed concentration is like being without any womb defects; great compassion is like a mother, protecting (the practitioner) from the abyss of the Nirvana of the Shravakas, and increasing virtuous dharmas. Thus, arising from these four causes is the arising of Bodhicitta. Second, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas generate the mind for their own benefit, but the Bodhisattva generates the mind for the benefit of both self and others, in order to accomplish the ten great vows, hence it is known to be vast. These ten great vows are: to offer to all Buddhas, to uphold all the true Dharma, to manifest all bodies, to enter all realms, to perfect all Paramitas, to ripen all sentient beings, to purify all realms, to abide in the same conduct as all Bodhisattvas, to make all actions meaningful, and to attain great Bodhi. These great vows also have countless hundreds of thousands of vow retinues, and these vows are also accomplished in the manner of the endless ten grounds, namely the realm of sentient beings, the world, the realm of space, the extent of the true Dharma, likewise Nirvana, the emergence of Buddhas, the wisdom of the Buddhas, the object of the minds of sentient beings, and as much as there is the conduct of the wisdom of the Buddhas, that much is accomplished. Summarizing these nine, in short, it is the continuation of the world.

The lineage of Dharma and the realm of activities of the lineage of wisdom, these ten are pervasive without limit in direction and time. It should be understood that Bodhisattvas engage in showing the manifestation of aspiration in such a way. Thirdly, the Shravakas are only happy to work for their own benefit, but the Bodhisattvas, for the sake of benefiting both themselves and others, practice various difficult practices that others cannot do, and do not tire of practicing for countless three kalpas, so they should be happy to understand the true Bodhi mind. Fourthly, the Shravakas only attain their own fruit by abandoning the afflictive obscurations, but the Bodhisattvas purify the two obscurations and come close to realizing the unsurpassed Bodhi, and also know the method of attaining Buddhahood, so it should be known that their intentions are pure. Fifthly, the Shravakas are only proficient in the stages of Stream-enterer, Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat in the way of abandoning the afflictions of the three realms, both conceptually and innately. When Bodhisattvas attain the first stage, etc., they are proficient in how to obtain the nature, qualities, and higher and higher stages of the remaining stages, so they are called remaining proficiency. Sixth, it is the way of abandoning the previous stage and entering the next stage, rising from stage to stage and definitely arising. Thus, in the first stage, the perfection of generosity is completed, and the qualities such as seeing the faces of a hundred Buddhas, etc., are all twelve hundred, etc. In conventional terms, the characteristics of the stage, how it is established, are also remembered, so those characteristics of the stage are not found elsewhere, but it is known that they are established only by the power of one's own mind's realization, and even the clinging to mere mind and mere thought is not conceived. Abiding in non-discriminating wisdom, one transcends the first stage and enters the second stage. In that way, one should also know about the other stages. Thus, it should be known that one definitely arises from stage to stage. The third is the explanation of the simile of generating the mind of enlightenment. The meaning of the six verses, such as the generation being the same as the earth, is that from the first generation of the mind of enlightenment in the stage of aspiration and practice, to the generation of the mind of enlightenment between the ten stages, etc.
